We all just watched this movie. Ds saw it when he was 5 or 6 but doesn't really remember it. He's 11 now, and was completely captivated during the entire movie.
Still one of the best family "classics" from start to finish, I couldn't believe how well this movie has stood up over time. The effects are completely believable, and ET looks so alive--difficult to believe that was all real puppet work, no CGI special effects.
The only icky part was the "bonus footage" added to the new DVD version--showing a CGI ET dubbed into some extra scenes upstairs during his first day. It's so obvious when it happens you'll know! Blech. Dh and I both said "Huh, this wasn't in the movie?!".
