UC documentary

Dear Friends,
I've recently become involved with a couple in the UK, Nadia Sawalha and Mark Adderley, who are interested in making a documentary about unassisted childbirth. As with other production companies that have approached the UC community, they are hoping to film a UC. However, unlike the other companies, they are not requesting to be at the birth. Cameras would be placed in the birthing woman's home, which she could easily turn on (and off) at her discretion. After filming the birth, the couple (or woman) could then decide if they wanted the birth to be included in the documentary.

I find Nadia and Mark to be very kind and honest people, and I feel they would present UC in a positive light. I’m enclosing a letter below which Nadia and Mark asked me to send out. To learn more about them, I suggest Googling them and/or exploring their web site - www.doghousefilms.co.uk

With love as always,
Laura

To whom it may concern,

We are in the process of making a sensitive documentary about Unassisted Childbirth. Dog House Films (the Production Company making the programme) is run by UK TV Presenter (and Actress) Nadia Sawalha – who is herself a leading proponent of Home Births in the UK – and who is currently 7 months pregnant and is having to fight for the right to have her second child at home, like her first.

It is with this level of personal experience (simply regarding her own struggle to have a 2nd home birth at 42 years of age) – that she (and Dog House Films) want to make a documentary about the highly sensitive issues that lay behind deciding to have totally Unassisted Births.

To this end Nadia and Dog House Films are wanting to talk BOTH to women who have gone through the experience of Unassisted Child Birth – but also they want to follow the path of TWO women moving towards having their own UNASSISTED BIRTHS – one in the US and one in the UK.

The programme will feature the knowledge and experience of LAURA SHANLEY – who has kindly agreed to participate in the documentary – with whom we have discussed in detail the rationale behind why such a documentary should be made – and the ways in such a programme could be made.

Being a company that specialises in making deeply personal and emotionally uplifting documentaries – Dog House Films proposes the use of non intrusive and mounted cameras at the place of birth as a means of ensuring that the birth day itself is totally protected from any physical intervention – and yet can still be filmed in order to inspire others.

The desire is to educate and illuminate – and hopefully inspire other women to believe that they too can do the same if they want to.

With best wishes,
Nadia Sawalha
Mark Adderley

I'd LOVE to participate. I had a UC broadcast on the web, it was awesome!
