what could this be??

Background - I had a csection 5 weeks ago, and I'm still bleeding from that. During the csection, I was told i had a lot of adhesions (basically, everything is stuck together. they could not even see my ovaries because of it).
------------------------------------

A few minutes ago I felt something coming out of my vagina... I went to the bathroom thinking it was just a buildup of blood, and a golf ball sized *thing* came out. It was almost perfectly round. It was hard, very meaty looking with minimal blood (sorry, tmi).

Any ideas on what this could be? My OB is out of office until next week, and i'm not too worried about it at this point since i'm not having abnormal bleeding.

I hope you saved it...the dr will most likely want to look at it. I know it'd be gross to have it hanging around, but it would probably be much more helpful than just a verbal description. Could it have just been a clot?

That must be very concerning to you. Is there someone else you can see in the meantime? Any pain? Tenderness? Fever? Has bleeding increased or stayed the same? After my first birth (vaginal) the OB left a huge wad of vaginal packing in me and I didn't know til' over a week later! It's very strange when something foreign comes out! Hope you get some answers.

Sounds like a clot on first hearing. I do not think there is any chance it's an ovary. Those suckers are pretty attached and there's no easy path from ovary to vagina to have it come out. So, don't worry about that, I'd say.
If it's not a clot, it could be a piece of placenta. Since it's out, it shouldn't be a problem. If your doctor thought there was more (because your milk didn't come in, because you had a fever or foul discharge, or you had pain or extra bleeding), the diagnostic is to have an ultrasound to check.

If you're concerned, save it in a ziploc in the freezer and chuck it if nothing else happens.

Even though your doc is out of the office, someone is covering for him, no doubt. You can call. A golf ball sized clot at 5 weeks is not typical. I can't see how you'd be faulted for calling.

A few hours after my first was born (take this as the anecdote it is, a thing squeezed it's way out of me.

I had no idea what it was, and despite being well prepared for a natural v.birth I didn't have a clue. I saved it (huge meaty thing, perfectly round and larger then two fists, it felt solid) and called a nurse.

Turns out it was a blood clot, thanks to the pitocin (given to rush out the placenta).

I thought it was a deformed twin it was bigger then my baby's head, thats for sure.

Personally I'd call whomever your caregiver is and ask.

weird that it took 5 weeks though.

I "delivered" a fist-size thingy several days after birthing (vaginally). Turned out it was mambrane...

It really looked like a baby-sized placenta!!

I will not attach the photo.
