Prenatal testing - Page 2

I had very basic bloodwork and it found some anomalies, so now I"ll be getting bloodwork done regularly No quad screen though and no NT test.

I'll be having an ultrasound at the end of the month (around 16 weeks? 17 weeks? 15 weeks?) for dating purposes, and I'm hoping they can just use this one opportunity to check everything they need.

No glucose testing here. GBS - I'll probably test but more so I can be aware if I need to be more vigilant with the baby rather than because I'll be getting abx if positive.

We had blood work done. Will skip glucose test and will probably do the GBS. I still want to do some research on it.

I hope my mw's are going to be ok w me skipping the glucose and the GBS. I was positive for GBS last time but declined Abx, well, there wasn't any time for that anyways, Lukas popped out as soon as I got there . So they might push for that this time but I will not budge. If they really want me to do the glucose I'll do it but won't drink that sugar-stuff!
I will do the US at 20 wks, NEED to find out what I'm having (besides it being a baby: )

I wasn't going to have the AFP blood test done (Dr. wants to do it at my next visit, I'll be at 15 weeks), but I asked my dr. if there was any reason to do it other than to terminate...I have no intention of doing anything differently in any case, I told her, but she said it's more for preparation. She said that with Down Syndrome there are high rates of heart abnormalities, and knowing that a child might be born with these, they can monitor things more closely, and have a cardiologist on-call for the delivery, if needed....that sort of thing. I want to love this baby as much as I can no matter what, and even though the test may bring unnecessary worry (I've had two friends who were told they had a chance of Downs only to eventually give birth to "normal" children), they can help me to be prepared for a child with special needs if that's what the case may be.

And I do want the 20 week ultrasound, but mainly because DH wants to know the sex. I'll give him that. We've already had so many ultrasounds as it is (4, the first because of a previous miscarriage, the 2nd to rule out a fibroid noticed in the 1st, the 3rd to confirm the diagnosis, and the 4th because she couldn't hear the heartbeat with doppler after some spotting....), but For my own peace of mind about the baby's health, and for DH's insatiable curiosity, I think we'll do it.

I won't have amniocentesis or CVS though.
