My, my. Such a cheerful, positive list of reasons to follow your political direction ...

Anything good to say about anyone or anything?

Not that I don't appreciate fine cynicism here & there, but ...

You know - there are a lot of good positive reasons for a progressive political direction - but right now the negatives are so overpowering. I've NEVER in my 44 years of life been so full of frustration and rage at any political power as I am now. With all due respect, Amy, your comment reminds me of a true story my working partner talked about. Our secretary was to go into the dentist and was talking about her fear. We were talking about relaxation techniques and how helpful they can be when facing fear and pain. Then Hanns said that these techniques don't always help. It seems that he was on a cruise and some man was throwing up overboard due to sea sickness and his wife kept saying, "Try to think nice thoughts, deary!!" :LOL

Well you know what they say, ignorance is bliss!

And for everything there is a season.

Great job, madmax. You've expressed my feelings for the last three weeks. But better than I ever could have, as usual!

Awesome job as usual!

Just because I comment on your negativity and choose to put energy, political and otherwise, in a more positive direction ... that means I'm ignorant?

:

Disagreeing with you can be a sign of thoughtfulness, madmax.

Think about it.

and now you're wondering???? For pete's sake!!! I've bounced around depression most of my life. Do ya suppose seeing war, assasinations, civil rioting, students shot, govt' lies, church hubris and starving children all B4 I was 18 might have had a play? As well as being raised by ppl who just wanted to work and buy all that money can buy w/o being involved in anything ("can't fight city hall", they say).

ENOUGH. ENOUGH. ENOUGH.

NOT IN MY NAME

I never want to be shamefaced to my 3 beautiful children when they ask "Why?"

Thank you, El's 3 Ones. Your voice is powerful.

Wish I could be more eloquent, but after your post, I'm mostly riveted in silence.

First of all I want to say I enjoy your poems, Madmax.

I do have to pipe in and say that I can understand Amy and NM's view on this one and actually find my reaction more in line with theirs (now someone should really mark the date and time of this one )

I mean this in the sense that I just can't "go there" in allowing myself to feel feelings of hate even toward the policies and people with whom I most disagree. One aspect of the spiritual path that I am on includes the idea that "what you resist, persists". I do believe that any energy that I put towards something will increase it's existence. I believe that I can pretty much be assured that something will not go away the more I fight against it. If I put any energy at all into hating, or hopelessness, or anger...it will only increase it, IMO.

It isn't a rose colored glasses, stick your head in the sand, ignorance is bliss kind of thing...rather it is a peace is always present although it is sometimes hidden, love is the only force in the universe, what you focus your mind on increases kind of thing.

But I still love your poems, please keep 'em coming

MadMax is using an art form to release some energy that is pent up. I happen to think that writing poetry is a great form of expression! Hate is a real feeling that we all have. We can all relate to the poem. Doesn't mean we are all hateful and negative and can't see the good in things. We come here to vent. I enjoy the way Madmax had chosen to release some of his feelings. I am very hateful inside when I read about some of the atrocities in the world. It is hard to hold all of it in. That is part of the reason I come here.

Els, I like your honesty!!

marg

Amyrpk, I agree that Max's response was out of line BUT I also think that your response to his poem was both sarcastic and inflamatory.

Sarcastic ... I plead guilty. A wise-a** I.

Inflammatory? I think not. That implies belligerence. None intended, and in rereading it, I don't see any.

I repeat:
We all have our own way and that way needs no defense.

No one need defend the way. It may appear rose-colored to others, negative to others, or inappropriate. Can any really say that their way is best and fits them so should fit all in thought, word, or deed? These are tense times and each individual, child or adult or teen or whomever, is simply acting on their personal process. They are each dealing, avoiding, reflecting, expressing, or just walking, their own way.

Just as we each have our way through the stages of mourning, which can include anger and even hatred if there is enough fire to the anger, (and have any considered that perhaps some of us ARE feeling in mourning for what we may feel deeply as loss?), well, who is to say when it's time to move on and get over it and be more positive?

To suggest, in the way it has come across which can be totally different from intention, that the choice to be/act more positively in expression should be the goal because it works for one, CAN feel inflammatory to others, whether that possible fact can be accepted or not. One size does not fit all.

Many ARE extremely and positively active outside of MDC. No one here knows really who or how others are, let alone exactly what they are doing outside of MDC. It is hard to know how words and tone will be perceived, but assuming anything about anyone is foolhardy.

May I just say that no one here has the corner on what is the good, better or best way to deal with life in the USA right now?

So if one finds some words inflammatory...well, perhaps that IS the real feeling some got from them. It is not impossible.

ITA.

I believe that poetry is a beautiful art form that is intended to evoke feelings and/or thoughts in both the writer and reader (if the writer chooses to share it as Madmax had done here) I think it is important to remember that those evoked feelings may not always be in agreement with the writer's POV. That, IMO, is part of the beauty of it

Wow.
As a poet myself.. I am delighted to see that poetry still has the power to get folks riled up.

Poetry, like drama, can be used to a cathartic end. As a matter of fact, with this one, I kind of got that feeling like this one was a high-energy work for mm, and I imagined how he put it together.

Come on, English majors, you KNOW things can be read in several ways...I like to look at all the things we hate and see that hey, at least we hate them. Now, if we loved them, this would truly be a negative piece.

And, with so much to hate, there is a whole WORLD of potential for improvement. In 2004, for example.

Optimism is not dead.
