The only real farm or ranch I've been to is the dairy coop my mom buys raw milk from. My husband is an ag major from A&M though. He's been exposed to more of the farm stuff. Ds has never been though. We're looking forward to it!

We're college students, so we're in Grand Forks in the fall and then down south near Whapeton for the summer. I'm offline all summer, but thought I'd pop in since I'm using the IL's computer!! lol

We're pretty cruchy.. babywearing, homeschooling, EBF both girls... Just do what I feel is right with the kids, instead of listening to "experts" and I think we do ok with that most of the time.

I'm near Alexandria. Its about an hour and a half? maybe to Fargo. We do try to get up there occasionally, we used to go there a lot in college, but its a been while.

I live in Moorhead, but am originally from Dickinson. I have one son who is 2.25 and have been married to my husband for 8 years. I am a sahm and currently taking distance ed. classes through UND. We are very unconventional in all aspects of parenting in contrast to most of the people in the community (which I'm sure you all know makes for some interesting conversation) We do not vaccinate or circ., we have a chemical-free household and I make all of my cleaning products and soaps. We recycle and compost and love to hang our laundry on our new clothesline. We love organic food (esp. food grown in our yard or produced in the region). Well, I guess that about covers it.

So happy to "meet" all of you! My name is Erin and I live in Grand Forks with my hubby of almost 7 years, my DD Hannah 5 yrs. & Hillary 1 yr. My hubby is a chiro. so we fit in well with a crunchy lifestyle (though we prob. seem a little strange to this conserv. town). I'm hoping for some others from my area--is there anyone out there I haven't met yet?

Here's the details of our crunchy life (prob. more than you wanted to know!): I had DD1 waterbirth at a birth center (Iowa), DS at home, DD 2 waterbirth at home. We cloth diaper (disposables once in awhile), no vax, eat as organic, whole, and natural as we can (options are limited here!), we co-sleep, tandem/EBF nursed, babywear (no surprise), and don't use medications (prefer to help the body heal itself with chiro., herbs, and oils). We use natural cleaning products (Shaklee--I don't sell it), recycle EVERYTHING, have a compost pile and try to garden (we have a great tree in the back yard but it shades the garden). We are just starting to homeschool officially and am leaning toward the unschooled approach.

I teach sign classes for parents and kids (and teach my own kids) and I work part-time in a nearby school with a hard of hearing student. My hubby stays home with the kids in the am and I do in the afternoon. My biggest job is sewing and running my sling business, Slings and More! I've been making and selling slings for 3 years and am trying to get one from each state (just a few left-discounts may apply!). I've made them all so far (almost 400!) but may be looking for some sewing help in the near future so I can snuggle with my girls some more! I've also invented the Car Seat Coat, but I didn't win the Good Morning of America Weekend's Mother's of Invention Challenge (Darn!). I like that my late nights sewing are helping babies/children to experience all the benefits of babywearing while moms and dads can get things done! It feels good! I am also an API leader/founder of our Greater Grand Forks API, a LLL member (our group just lost our leader but we still meet as a breastfeeding group), I'm a newly certified doula (DONA), a lactation counselor, and my degree (though I don't use it) is in Occupational Therapy. I also sing with the Sweet Adelines (barbershop chorus) and we just won 3rd place small chorus at our competition. (5 years, first medal--little excited!)

Other than that, I have an unhealthy fascination for garage sales and I have too many clothes but am typing this in my pj's mostly b/c all my clothes are in the wash & partly b/c I just got done with school & I'm in summer vacation mode! I don't get much time on the boards but I'll keep checking this one. PM/email me if you need something!

I just wanted to let you know that just because someone is conservative it does not mean they are not crunchy. I am very conservative and we co-sleep, cloth diaper, eat organic foods (when our budget allows!), I wear my children as much as possible & I breastfeed.

I love Chiropractors by the way, well, mine anyway! He has done wonders for me.

Hey it was great to get an invite to this group! I am, however, only in your neck of the woods once a year or so. I grew up in Minnesota near Fergus Falls and still have family there. My sister and most of the rest of my family lives in Fargo. I live in Vancouver BC Canada the rest of the time.

I like to have like minded mommies to visit when we come "home" for a visit...so I'll pop in now and again if you don't mind.

Sorry, I don't mean to offend when I say conservative. I mean it as more of a "AGGGHHH, change???" kind of way. We've got quite a challenge when it comes to changing birthing practices, bfing environments, etc. The mentality of "this is how we've always done it, why would we change it" is predominant. People who do things differently (CD, non-vaxing, bfing,...) kind of stick out here!

Hi Everyone-
My name is Maggie, dh and I recently moved to Minot. Our son is almost 16 months and I'm 12 weeks pregnant. jhow- I graduated from UT in Austin, BS Applied Learning & Development. (I love Aggies though.)
We are fairly crunchy- certainly compared to the great majority of people I know. Basically, I parent with my instincts, always keeping in mind the way things were thousands of years ago. Since I've gotten pregnant, I've slipped a bit. It's hard to be diligent when you're pooped.
Main thing is foods we eat I suppose- as whole as possible, organic when we can FIND it. All the other things mentioned that makes a person "crunchy"- I think are wonderful. Some we manage to do, some not, some as much as possible.
