I just moved to Minot a month ago. My husband is in the Air Force.He's getting out in a year, but we like it here, and we think we might stay.
our daughter is 9 months old.
We use natural cleaners, soaps, shampoos etc. We CD, Babywear, Co-sleep, EBF, and try to go free range, and organic. Ummmm...? I think that's all

This is what I get for not checking this area of the website for a couple of weeks!!! A whole huge thread I have to catch up on!!

So, about me.....I am in Bismarck. I am a WAHM running a daycare. I have a 4 yo boy, 2 yo boy and now a 5 mo girl. My DH is a paramedic here in Bismarck. We have only lived here for about 2 years. Before that we lived in Mohall.

My biggest obession is probably pregnancy and childbirth. I am hoping to go back to nursing school (I have been going to school for my RN off and on for 5 years) and become either a L&D nurse or a CNM. I also want to become a doula and childbirth educator. I would be both all ready if I could afford the distance courses thru Childbirth International....hopefully this fall.

I am mildly crunchy. I wear my baby, cosleep, breastfeed on demand and in public, and make all my baby food from scratch (and usually from veggies in my garden). I breastfed my first two until 18 months old and had to quit due to being pregnant with the next one. I remember all the funny looks and comments I had to put up with in my small town because I was slinging, cosleeping, and had midwives for my births.

I had a CNM for my first two births as well as a doula. Third birth was a VBAC here in Bismarck with an OB, no doula (she couldn't make it the day I was induced).

I'm happy to help however I can.

Oh I can sympathize with you!! I had my first two in Minot with the nurse midwives. Midwives were good, but Trinity Hospital is HORRIBLE!!! Thank god I had a doula (who unfortunately has moved away since I had those births) or it would have been an even worse experience.

To be honest, I would also consider having a homebirth or switching to a provider down here in Bismarck. I know several women from Minot and surrounding areas have done exactly that because of Trinity's policies. The hospitals down here are WAY better. I had my VBAC here at St. A's and it was a completely different world compared to Trinity!!!

We're starting to taper off here...so this is my bump to keep the ball rolling... I think we SHOULD start trying to organize meetups in the different parts of the state here such as one in Bismarck, one in Minot, one in Fargo, & one in Grand Forks OR try to combine Grand Forks and Fargo and combine Minot and Bismarck...Any thoughts?

Sorry this is off topic ladies but if any of you know of nearby (in ND terms) midwife who meets these criteria please, please PM me:

• Be a nationally certified midwife (CPM, CM,
CNM); or
• Be legally recognized in a jurisdiction,
province or state as a practitioner who
specializes in maternity care; or
• Be a midwife who has been a primary
attendant without supervision for at least 50
out of hospital births and a minimum of three
years.

Remember, I am in Minot so I meant near me. I'm willing to travel alot so any info is helpful!

The one idea I have is Snooper's by the Bismarck Tribune. On Tuesday's they have "Toddler Tuesday" where they give a really good deal on getting in ($1 per a year of age up to 5 YO., it's usually $5.95 per a kid other days) and I know I have a coupon for pizza there so after it's all said and done I figure the deal is from 12-5pm so I can stay there most of that time and let DD play with other little ones and its still cheaper then a sit down restaurant! (As long as I don't pig out of snacks!) They have a lot of different activities too, and lots of kids show up so it keeps them busy and gives parent time to relax and chit chat a little. The zoo is also a good idea though and on a not so hot day it would be fun to do the trolley ride or go when they have children's story time through the library. We'll have to come up with something once we figure out who wants to come and when they can. What time in the evening do you become available ndakkitten? Other people too?

My schedule is different every week ... in the next few weeks I have Fridays and Saturdays off, then my maternity leave is starting early on July 18 or so. I probably couldn't make it to anything on a workday since I work 1-midnight. I would love to go to at least one meetup before I have this baby, because I'm not going to be getting out much after that!

How about Saturday afternoon, July 7, at the zoo? Would anyone be up for that?

Ok, for those moms that have stated they want to get together for the questionaire brainstorming committee where do you want to meet? Fargo or Jamestown? If people really want it, I can do Bismarck as well. I'm planning the meeting for July 7th at 11:30 A.M. with a pot luck lunch at 12:00. The facilities in Fargo and Bismarck will have a kitchen available and a play room, but don't yet know about Jamestown and the kitchen (I'm pretty sure it does). So show of hands again, where do you want to meet?

Bismarck meet up sounds great if we can get a turn out. I am a weekend and evening mama too.

I refuse to do snoopers, LOL - I got a parasite from there when I was 8 months PG with DD2 that landed me in the hospital (TMI) with violent vomitting for 2 days and on IV fluids : it was the worst experience of my life. That place has to be terribly unsanitary. DH thought it would be fun to take DD #1 there for her second b-day, never again.

We love the zoo though if other mamas are interested in that location.

Morgansmum, those of us that are able to are coming in from around the state (some even from MN like me) to draft a questionaire to be filled out by all HB/pro HB families in ND (that we can reach). I'd like to start drafting a bill to be presented during next yrs session, but want to make sure I get the majorities views and opinions covered. I also want to make sure that I don't leave any subjects out that could provide loopholes that could be exploited by anti's. So far it's looking like Bismarck or Jamestown will be the place we hold it. I voted for Fargo, just because I don't want to drive and it's easier for me to reserve a building for it here, but I still have resources readily available in the other two cities as well. So far we are planning for July 7th at 11:30 A.M. with a pot luck lunch to be served at 12:00. There will be a full service kitchen available for those that need to warm foods up, along with a play room for kids so all kids are welcome. I'd rather dad's be there to provide input than at home watching kids, so we'll have toys for younger kids and a gym for the older ones. (Kitchen, etc are definite in Fargo and Bismarck. I don't know about Jamestown yet, but am pretty sure they are the same just a smaller scale.) So I need all votes in by Sun and I will go ahead and reserve the building then. For those that can't make it, it looks like I and another mom will be able to set the questionaire up online after the meeting so that we can get comments/suggestions from those that have computer access. For those that don't I'm happy to have my # passed out, as long as it is done judiciously.

Jen, golly you are a busy, motivated lady!: Another suggestion for all of you who are for Fargo and all of us who cannot make it there, why don't we just have two meetings and collaborate afterwards? You could host the Fargo one and one of us could host the Bismark or Jamestown one. After that we could get together on the input. May not be ideal but would save alot of driving and include more people face-to-face. Just an idea.The internet option is also a really good one b/c everyone's suggestions would be documented so that nothing gets accidentally omitted or forgotten.

Jen Howard suggested we hold two meetings to account for everyone's schedules, travel plans, etc and I agree that would be the best way to reach everyone. I'll set up the 1st meeting in Bismarck for July 7th and the second will be the following week in Fargo. If anything comes up in the meantime I will post and let everyone know, otherwise I will post a reminder on the Fri before.
