Book rec. for dh???

Dh's birthday is coming up and I'd like to give him a new book--any suggestions? His favorite authors are Michael Cunningham, Michael Chabon, Nick Hornby, and John Irving and I think he's read all of their stuff. (He does read female authors too--Zadie Smith and Curtis Sittenfeld most recently--but seems to prefer the men. Go figure. ) I'm usually pretty good at this but seem to be in a slump right now. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

My husband and I both like Neil Gaiman. Especially "Neverwhere" and "American Gods".

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll check him out.

Has he read "Thank You for Smoking" yet? I also think he might like "Little Follies" by Eric Kraft.

I suspect he'd really enjoy Jane Smiley's picaresque novels -- "Moo" or "Horse Heaven."

No, but we saw the movie. Is the book still worth it?

I thought the movie was pretty good. Just checked out Kraft and the Smiley rec's on Amazon--they look perfect!! Thanks so much. I don't know why my brain is on siesta this week. I'm usually on it when it comes to books.

I would think he hasn't read Trying to Save Piggy Sneed, a somewhat obscure collection of fiction and non-fiction by John Irving. Has he read Louise Erdrich? Lots of good choices that I think an Irving fan would love. http://www.harpercollins.com/author/...?authorid=2905

If he likes Michael Chabon, he's got a new one just out. Hardcover only still, IYKWIM.
