Did you say TWINS?????

So, I had a midwife appt. yesterday to check on some spotting I had been having this week. She found the heartbeat quickly and it was very reassuring. It was also fun b/c I had my 5 year old DD with me and she found out for the first time that there is a baby growing in my tummy! :-) She was over the moon!

The midwife said that my uterus was much higher than she would have thought, given that I'm only 11 weeks (and we know this from an earlier dating u/s). She felt the top of my uterus a couple of fingers below my belly button, and then the heartbeat just below that. I have an ultrasound scheduled for next week for prenatal screening, so she wants me to "mention" to them about my high uterus. She thinks that either I have a really big uterus, a fibroid that feels like a uterus, OR -- get this: TWINS.

More twin evidence: I have been really sick for the past two months, have a slightly elevated b/p for the first time in my entire life, I'm 37, AND according to my mom - twins run rampant in our family. I had no idea -- my great grandmother was a twin, my great aunt had twins, her twins had twins.....twins EVERYWHERE!!!!! OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!!!!!!
My head is spinning. I know it might not be twins, but let's face it, that's alot to get your head around!!!!!!!

So, you had an early ultrasound and they did not see any twins? Now I'm worried all over again. I've had this niggling fear that I am carrying twins the whole time, but I had an ultrasound at 11 weeks that showed only one baby (I'm not really worried anymore, I'm pretty sure there's only one, but I guess you never know.)

Well, good luck if it is twins! Did she try to listen for another heartbeat?

Yeah, at my 7 week u/s, they saw 1 little peanut -- and joked at the same time that "this would be the time they would miss twins - HA HA!"

She didn't try to listen for a second heartbeat. She knew I was having another u/s.....I guess that's why(?)

For the first time ever I've had a twins vibe too. Scary and exciting at the same time. I feel like my uterus is a bit higher than it should be, I am so sick, and my BP is up already. I haven't had any pelvic exams, tummy palpation, dopplers or u/s yet. I may have the doppler and tummy palpation on June 1st though. I will be 14 weeks then.

The hubster would like an u/s so we'll schedule that around 20 weeks. There will be no missing twins then!

I don't know how they would have missed twins at 7 weeks. My three sacks showed up, no problem at my 8 week u/s. I guess if they were mo/mo then you might miss seeing the two in one sac, but identical twins (which is pretty much all mo/mo twins can be) is not genetically inherited. Only fraternal twins (where the mom releases more than one egg) can be inherited from a family history, that or fertility treatments. I mean, it'd be nice to not have to be the only one lurking around with twins, but I would be kind of surprised if they had missed that on an u/s.

Either way, I hope you get what you want.
