I totally agree which is why I brought it up?

My reference was not made regarding Bush and his religion, but US and OUR religious views... In other words, saying things like "I know the truth" because I'm a christian etc... Sorry if I was unclear. Hope that makes sense.

I don't care if we discuss Bush's religion as it relates to the subject, but I don't like the I'm right because I love Jesus sh$$. Or your an idiot b/c you believe in God... either or is not ok as far as Im concerned and takes things off topic...

I am but one person with one opinion, feel free to disagree

Yes, Devi the statement was directed at me. As everyone here knows I am a Christian ...
Well, that makes at least two of us...

It is not bad to occassionally refer to ones faith in this forum. I did it in an extremely subtle way.
I didn't think your quote was subtle.

I'm not pulling in any "jesus trump card" Devi. There is enough spirituality on this boards for people to understand what I am saying without them even having to be a Christian.
I think Hilary also understood what you were saying and responded with his own 'subtle' version of truth. Hilary thinks God is a figment of our imaginations, is it not ok for him to share?

It seems we have a choice to make, allow all of our subtle comments, or keep them ALL out...

BUT having it brought up raises the point, that whether you are a Buddist, Pagan or whatever label you attach to yourself... you attach that label, because to you it is the truth.

Since when does it them become a crime to say that you have your label, because you believe it is the truth?
Its not a crime if all of our truths are allowed...But, I don't personally feel my truth is the only truth. I respect anothers right to their own reality. I simply thought this thread was drifting by bringing our own beliefs into the matter. And as you can see I was right.

If you have a gripe about how this thread drifted, then take it up with HB, who decided to renew his needling of how he interprets NM's comments, which brought those sentiments to the fore.
Well you seem to have left off the part where I did 'take it up with Hilary.' "Or your an idiot b/c you believe in God... either or is not ok as far as Im concerned and takes things off topic...

Sorry about steering this so far off topic. My remark was meant to be a good natured poke, not a major thread derailer. NM and I have an understanding, and even though we are appalled by each other's views, we're not afraid to joke about it. Well, that's my take, anyway...

I realize that you guys have a long-running thing going, and most of the time it amuses me no end. The last remark just seemed a bit ... barbed. I can't believe I'm saying this (being morally opposed to the overuse of smilies) but a wink at the end might have made the tone more clear?

Good grief. Did I say that? Start hunting for the pod, will you?

Namaste,

Pallas

edited to add:
Devi, how on earth did you slip those smilies in before I posted? Are you psychic?

Now that I think about it, what I said was stupid...God probably doesn't care either.
And you know what. I don't really either. It doesn't make a damn bit of difference to me who gets put into office. We'll still have the same jerks running the show and nothing will change.
I'll correct my original post to say what I really mean- I'll pray that I can keep peace within myself, becuase that's the only thing I have any control over anyway.
It's all so frustrating

By the power invested in me as and ordained pastor in the Christian faith, I hearby declare that talking about religion in my thread is OK!! Just try to keep it respectful!

I think the religious intolerence is just another sign of the frustration of the times. And I do think that it is more so in the US than - well I can only speak of Germany. We have travelled back and forth since 1993 and we have noticed each time that the situations within the congregations that we regularly visit have gotten so polarized!! that is not to even mention the polarization between Congregations. The fact that it is more important for some people to say they have the only true vision of what God's will is, makes them feel better, but angers God. I believe God gave US the choice as to how we are going to live with each other - God gave us his son to show us little tricks as to how we should do it lovingly - and we have to learn how to do it - even if we have to do it the hard way - by polarizing until we explode and can do no more than struggle together to pick up the peices.

So play nice!

AMEN

Back to the OP, no, I have never felt so frustrated. Or so disgusted by the stupidity of the American people at large because most of them won't bother to even research any of the issues and take what Clear Channel et al spoon feed them as the gospel truth. (There I managed to work religion into my post, but it wasn't easy. )

I wasn't even this frustrated by the Ronald Reagan years.

Devi,

Please don't :ignore. I you!!

The thread is about frustrations - and I guess we did get off track - but that just seems to be par for the course these days. There is something irritating when it appears some Gnostic is patronizing, but that is just another sign of the dangerous polarization (I don't think I have ever used that word so often in my life as I have in this thread! - But right now I'm too tired to think of another word) that we need to deal with. That is why you don't see me in Spirituality . . . but that is T!

I guess it just amazed me that I could feel so strongly right now and so many Americans seem to think everything is fine and we need to hang on to old status quo! "Never underestimate the power of denial!" (American Beauty)
