Anyone else ready to decorate?

I always tend to "jump the gun," but after getting over that first trimester hump I am so ready to start working on the baby's room. There will be so much to do, I feel like at least starting to clear out the space and pick out some paint...of course I'm already browsing online for sweet simple decor and curtains and such.

Anyone else already decorating, or making idea lists?

That's exciting.

Not me, though. My kiddos always sleep in our room for 6+ months and then have to share a room afterwards, so no baby room here.

It's exciting to think about, isn't it?

My planning is more around basic household organizational things like finding baby stuff in the basement, clearing space for more stuff, etc.

I would LOVE to decorate, but we are moving when the baby is 6 mos. old, so we're not going to bother with a nursery. We also live in a rental, so we can't paint the walls. We thought about making a nursery for a little while, but decided to do something special for the babe in our new place.
Does anyone have colors/themes in mind? We're thinking something unisex, with animals.

I just want to get organized, too. I think we may find out if its a boy/girl only because I want to know if I should sort DD's stuff or hold onto it. The clothes are overflowing in her closet and it isn't as though there's another empty closet in the house. She needs to go up a size this summer and I need to make space for the maternity stuff. I have no idea where all the new stuff will go. I am interested searching out cloth this time, there's no changing table downstairs anymore, and I need to clear out my closet(s), too, since I will likely never wear the size 2s that I'd been saving since before DD was born
Oh, and DH had better get the bathroom finished before the baby comes, especially if we do a homebirth!!
The next six months is going to go by FAST :

Not decorate per se, but now that I have more energy, I'm hoping to get working on my scrapbooking and get 2006 finished and 2007 mostly done by the time Sprig arrives.

As far as the house is concerned, it looks like we are embarking on a major project involving geothermal heat, foundation repairs, and a finished basement (yay yay yay yay), which will necessitate boxing up all the crap in the basement and storing it in the garage. So organization is the key word around here too. DH and I are going thru our cupboards ruthlessly trying to get rid of things. So far it's going well, although the front porch is now crammed full of things we want to get rid of

Once we have a basement with office space, then the kids might actually have rooms of their own! I used to joke that we moved into a 4 bedroom house (with a living room, library, dining room and kitchen on the main floor) and yet the kids would have to sleep in the basement. Well, so far they get to sleep with us, and the bedrooms are designated as: bedroom, den, DH'soffice, my office/where we keep kids clothes/cribs that are in pieces/frames and boxsprings from bed that is now a mattress on the floor.

Whew - just thinking about it does make me a bit tired.

*sigh* a lot of us with tons of kids (giggle) don't decorate. We co-sleep and then dump the kids into the only extra rooms in the house when they're old enough (giggle again).

However, on another thread somewhere I had said if I HAD the room, I would decorate a nursery, sans the crib. Just because. Last kid and lots of fun shopping!

I DO need to decide where to put the extra dresser we need for the baby. And I suppose I could paint the boys' rooms as I've been promising to do since we moved in. But with us still waiting to buy a house, it's not as much fun putting time and money into a rental.

We've been very happily nomadic for the past 11 years, but are now settled and ready to buy a house. Except that we're finally settled in a place where buying a house will cost $400,000 - $700,000. Hmm... not so easy to do with a big family on one income!

But I live vicariously through OTHER people's shopping experiences. hehe

We co sleep here too. So no special room. But it is fun to shop for!

I wish I could. again, I just don't know how long we're going to be in this house. When Titus was born, we had just sold our house and moved when he ws a couple weeks old. I was totally robbed of my nesting!!!!

I'm pretty sure we'll be here for a while, but We'll need another bedroom eventually. no real plans, but I had hoped on doing a tropical theme for Titus in the last house: big orange hibiscus on the walls with maybe some waves and a palm tree "growing" out of the wall. : but now we're renting and I can't do any of it.

I CAN do it (after all, there are huge purple flowers hand painted in the boy's room) as the landlords are okay with it, BUT it's kind of soul sucking when you realize you have to leave the time, energy, money and end product behind when you move!

I'm waiting to find out definately what we are having. I had an u/s yesterday and the baby looked very girly. I'm hoping she stays that way and I can purge the 5 bins of baby boy clothes at our yard sale. Once I clear out the clutter I can concentrate on the baby's room.

I think we'll co-sleep or use a bassinet in our room for a while (still have to read up on sleeping methods and such, since this baby is my first), but our spare room right now serves as an office and I'd love to be able to put a crib and changing table in there for when the baby's ready to "move in."

I'm a renter too, and I doubt my landlady would be keen on me painting the room any crazy colors, but I'm sure she can't argue with a new coat of off-white (especially since she didn't paint when we moved in and we got old dirty walls we've been living with for 2 years).

I've got my eye on these curtains from Ikea. and this cute shelf for boy or girl

I'm a dork I guess. I just love looking and drooling at Ikea and Pottery barn kids (sooo out of my price range), and building my little registry/wishlist on amazon...I'm so excited!

I already started. I feel like I have a time constraint. I guess because nobody really knows how long I'll be able to carry the babies or when they'll decide to get here that I feel totally unprepared, and so I want to be prepared for anything. I still can't find a pediatrican though... that's another thread though.

Not decorating for baby here, but I have been eyeing some of the used amby's on Ebay. I'd really like to get one for this baby. I plan on cosleeping or at least having the baby in my room. I'll just have to see what works best for the baby and me. With dd1, she was more comfortable in a bassinet beside me. But dd2 wouldn't let me put her anywhere except up against me, which was fine with me. We had a cosleeper with her and it only got used as a changing table.

BarefootPregnant, I love Ikea!!! And I just found out we are getting a new one an hour from us (currently, the nearest one is 4 hours). I'm so excited! Their kids decor and furniture is just the cutest!

We were going to do a "Where the Wild Things Are" theme for ds before he was born. We got as far as a base coat on the walls and never did the mural. He took to sleeping with us so it just never seemed to be a priority. Since expecting dc#2, we are moving this summer and I'm glad we didn't do it afterall. I am sure the baby will be in the co-sleeper next to us for 6 months. If we are lucky enough to find a 3 bedroom I would eventually like to do an African Savanna mural with giraffes and lions, etc for the baby and some kind of tropical rainforest mural for ds. We'll see if I actually get around to it though!

I'm totally diggin on Ikea to Big-Boy-up Titus's room. There's one about 10 minutes away too!!! Now THAT is some decorating I can get excited about because It would mostly be stuff/furniture that we can take with us.

My last two children won't even have a room for a while...Geneva's room was snapped up by my husband to use as his business office. The boys share a room with bunkbeds and tons of toys, but yeah, we all sleep together in a king size bed in my room!
DS was with us for 2.5 years...so, Im in no rush. Plus, Im hoping that the bunk beds in DS room will be useful then (puts DS at 6.5 - wow...scary to think about that...) and I think he'd probably be ok up top by then.

This might sound weird, but I love having a spare bedroom. I think when the kids are older we will seperate, but not anytime soon.

We've never had a nursery... I too am more concerned about organization, going through things...getting ready to have 3 kids, etc.

Dd2 will mostly still be co-sleeping...so we need to get a king bed. Heck, dd1 will probably be climbing back in as well! We hope that maybe dd2 will want to go back and forth across the hall...dd1 has an ikea bunkbed where the bottom is just a mattress on the floor. Dd1 and dd2 may want to sleep together sometimes. But, we're expecting the entire family to be in our bed!
