Anyone have special needs kids in Montessori?

If so can you tell me your experience?
My son is significantly delayed in speech and communication. Possibly on the autism spectrum. I talked to one M school very briefly and she said sn's kids do well in their school and they have 3 kids there with autism that are doing well.
Any experiences?

I home school a 15 year old boy right now who has severe ADHD and is very delayed. He has the mentality of a 7-10 year old. His mom told me he attended Montessori for elementary and middle school and that it worked out very well for him. He learned to read and do simple math. I think he enjoyed it too, because he tells me all the time about his friends and teachers at his "big" school, and he hasn't been there for several years.

There is an autistic child in my ds's public Montessori school. He has a teacher's assistant that stays with him.

I would think he would do well more for the fact that from what I've seen socialization comes second to self-reliance. The Montessori exercises are done solo, from what I've seen. Of course, there are times to socialize as well.
Good luck, and keep me updated if you follow through with it. I have a friend who's son was diagnosed with Asperger's and she's considering Montessori.

I think Montessori is perfect for kids with learning disabilities, ADHD, Asperger's and high functioning autism too. Check out the websites for the Toronto Montessori School for Autism, and also for the Shelton School in Texas (Montessori for LD, ADD, PDDs). But also make sure you have a flexible, warm, non-rigid or flat director/directress who isn't hell bent on all kids being able to do grammar boxes and test tube division before elementary!
