doc wants to induce for no reason except "due date"! help!! - Page 2

Not in your DDC but wanted to chime in...I have just heard that they use cycotec (sp.?) in my practice too...I am not going to take it either. Not that I have heard the word induction for any reason.

But I wanted to say one thing -- my DS was born May '04 (on the 15th actually, your due date!) and b/c my membranes had been ruptured for 48 hours they augmented me with cervadil (had an allergic reaction and made my birth canal swell -- delightful) and pitocin. I did an unmedicated pit labor. You don't have to get an epi if you get pitocin. I was determined to avoid an epi for the same reasons you are, I wanted to avoid a C/S. The labor was intense, as I imagine all are, but it was doable. I took it one contraction at a time and had a great doula. My true labor was over in about 9.5 hours (a few hours of labor "lite" before that) I had my precious DS. So don't think that you can't do the unmedicated pit thing, because you can.

Take care & (((hugs)))

Or, as a compromise, if you want to keep doc firmly on-side with you, ask for an NST on the Fri before the long weekend and if everything is fine then you can wait until after the long weekend to induce or continue to wait at that point until you decide you are ready or baby is in danger. Some babies just stay in longer than others, there's no need to panic (or induce yet) for no good reason!
Relax and sleep and walk and have sex lots between now and Friday and maybe your babe will come on its own before then anyways

you aren't overdue and you won't be at 41.5 weeks either. just refuse to be induced until 42w.

i went almost to 42w with my 1st babe. my doctor mentioned induction around the 41w time and i just said no thanks and he let it go. it was more like if i wanted to. no pressure from him. he never scheduled an NST or anything. he's got to be over 60 years old and i think he knows that babies don't know anything about that 40 week date he did schedule me for an induction at 41w6d. and i was mostly ok with that. not looking forward to it but also wanting to get the show on the road. anyway i went into labor the day before and all was fine.

once you get past 41w every single day has a higher chance that your body is READY!!! you have faith in your body obviously....project that firmly to your OB and she can't force you to do anything. just don't show up if they make you an appointment

good luck!
: I got acupuncture when I was 12 days post due with DS and had been scheduled to be induced, which I absolutely did not want. I really think it helped my labor start. Not to mention I'd never had acupuncture before and it was really cool.

update

well i talked my doc out of today being the induction day, thank GOD. it was REALLY HARD BUT I DID IT!!!!!!!

whew. she was NOT happy with me at ALL. it was so hard. she looked so pale and talked about the stillbirths she has seen.

my NST and ultrasound showed the perfect healthy baby, though.

finally we agreed on monday night with cervadil (NO CYTOTEC) and then tuesday for the real induction (pitocin?!). i am trying NOT to think about it. if i think about it i am afraid it will become real, you know? i still blame my MIND for all of this, stupid, huh.

she did sweep the membrane (or whatever that is called) and as this AM, my plug is coming out. also i am now at 1 cm which is progress for me!

been having contractions all morning that fizzled out, as usual.

i am beginning to think i have a problem. trying to stay positive. i am 10 days over due today.

thanks for listening.

I know it's hard, but keep your spirit up. Try to soak in a bath and relax. Or meditate to relaxing music. I can tell how stressed and worried you are. All will be ok.

When I had my membranes stripped a few weeks ago, I lost lots of mucus and bloody show for about 40 hours and was convinced the "sweeping" was not going to make me go into labor. Well, I walked, had sex, drank the RRL tea, everything. My water broke in the middle of the night on the second day after the sweep; after I had finally give up and thought it didn't work.

Either way, you will be meeting your babe SOON! YAY! Hang in there.

Your body IS working, no problem, and your doctor sure isn't making it easy for you to relax which your body needs! Hugs, mama.
Just think of all the wonderful preparing your body is doing ahead of time to make labor that much more efficient. I'd probably try to keep my mind off the approaching induction date too...that would stress me out. Sorry it's looming there for you.

I don't have any suggestions just support for you. Hang in there! This baby knows when to come!

thank you for this!!!! i will focus on this!!!!

now i am off to YET ANOTHER NST TEST. : : : talk about nerve racking. i stare at the little monitor, all like, "stay normal, kid, stay normal......"

i feel like they are LOOKING for a problem. but i should be thinking positive, like, they are just "trying to help."

hopefully after today they will leave me alone........!

I just saw your post in "new posts".

I'm not sure I understand the problem. Your baby, your body...just say "no". Doctors are not authorities and no hospital will refuse you even if you dr. did dump you...which they wouldn't at this point. They would just try to scare you. Your body knows what it is doing and your baby is perfectly healthy. Your baby is not ready to come out yet. I guess I'm not understanding the problem here. Do you think your doctor knows your body and baby better than you do?

This Dr is putting you in such an awful position. You are fine, you don't even have to do the induction on Mon either especially not with the Cervadil.Your body is working very well. You are fantastic!Keep listening to your baby and your body.
I avoided my last two appts because I wasn't going to agree to an internal, didn't like the MW I was scheduled to see(I had to ask her about all the tests results they had me do and ask her to feel the baby's postition and she just dabbed at my belly!) and didn't want to discuss induction or even bother with NSTs until after I was overdue.According to a late U/S I was due around the 15.I was upset with my body since by then I had already had my babys and I was miserable and could not even feel my own cervix and baby was posterior and high enough to jab his toes in my rib cage. One of the MW called me on Fri and told me to come in to L&D to be evaluated.I thought about it but knew that it would be hours away from my family and then they would find a reason to keep me there and there was a chance of Oops! we borke your water so now you have to stay with a Pitocin drip.I kept away from the hospital.I did try pineapple, sex, cumin tea(nasty, nasty),RRR leaf tea extra strength with some cinamon(it worked with my first),was alreadt tandem feeding so plenty of nipple stim, walking, ect. and still baby didn't come until he was ready on the 19th.
He was also my smallest but my biggest belly so don't let anyone worry you with the big baby card.

you have all the advice and words of wisdom you need. Now it is up to you to make the choice.
No induction method is completely safe.

I wish you much strength......
Good Luck

LABOR VIBES to you momma!

Good Job talking with your OB! I know that must have been hard!

I decided to take castor oil the day before my NST and U/S was scheduled, just in case they wanted to induce me with the chemical crap and it worked perfectly! You can try it and know that it will not work if babe isn't ready to come out, but it will jump start labor if he is ready.

Try to relax this weekend and enjoy your holiday!

I can't believe your doc on this. The average first time mom goes to 41.5 weeks. That would put you at average first time gestation on the day you typed this. That's not "overdue" at all. I can't believe all the stress your doctor is causing you!!

Do you have good labor support? I'm worried about the weakened trust between you and your OB.

I thought they couldn't induce over mem. day weekend? Sounds like exactly what they're doing. THey lied to you, or at least 'stretched' the truth.

Hard for me to believe she has seen so many stillbirths before 42 weeks.

fwiw, when i was scheduled to induce, I went into labor naturally the night before, didn't even do anything special. It can happen!

(wouldn't schedule it again though if it were an option, which it isn't, as I ended up having a c/s. I'm at 41 + 4 now but mw is very relaxed about it.)

If I were you, I would not show up for that induction. If you're still pregnant come Monday, turn the phone off, relax and do not show up for that induction. Wait until labor begins on its own and then go to the hospital. No matter what, under the EMTALA laws, your doctor cannot refuse to help you give birth.
This is your birth, your body, your baby, honey you need to take control and don't let anyone, not a doctor or nurse or your mother or best friend or anyone, tell you that you have to do what they say. Be strong!

This is great advice. I would especially stress the "turn off your phone" part. Between the in-laws and the well meaning friends and the doctor, a person could have a breakdown from all the pressure!

you guys are the best!!

the doc actually apologized to me and told me she understood my issues with the whole "memorial day" bull*$&^# runaround....((its difficult because she really has been a good doc up until now. which makes it so much harder to stand up to her, KWIM!?))

the nst was PERFECT. in the elevator up to the appt. a random lady asked me how far along i was, and i told her "due last week." she said "REALLY? BUT YOU ARE SMALL, HONEY!"

ah ha! interesting, huh. ((keep in mind i am not a small person by any means, but my belly is not crazy out of proportion...i don't look "overdue" or even "uncomfortable" which only adds to my personal view that i am JUST FINE DAMNIT!))

i like the idea of telling them on monday "oh i am in labor, i dont need to come in!" and then the next day, if i am not, just say "wow, it just stopped. sorry about that!" to buy myself some time.

i did some intense acupuncture yesterday, and was advised by the acupuncture doc to use my electric breast pump, that it brought on her first labor in about an hour -- so i am scared but i am gonna give it a try. i also have been losing my plug, having contractions, etc etc. so.

we shall see.

thank you again, lovely smart ladies of mdc.
