library summer reading program: yay or nay? - Page 2

I did them every single summer growing up. I loved reading BEFORE the programs and never quit reading after I outgrew them. They were just fun. For us, I was reading the books anyways, I might as well get some fun papers and prizes while doing it. And I loved the metal you got at the end!

Beyond that, to me, reading is good. If I had a kid that didn't like to read, I'd encourage them to do this to possibly get into it. If I had a kid that did love reading, we'd enroll just to have more fun.

OK, because I am a Book Slut, could you post a link to the B&N reading program, madskye? Or anyone? I couldn't find it on the site.

I think you will find it in the link below. If not, the form you fill out should be in stores Memorial Day weekend.

This will be the 3rd year my dd will do it. Last year, I actually decided to up my reading as well. I am fortunate in that my dd loves to read. Like another poster had mentioned, I like my dd to feel comfortable at the library. We go to the library quite regularly. But at the end of the reading program they give free passes to a local minor league baseball game, we never went, but my dd is really into baseball this year, so we may end up going this time.

Also, when you sign up they keep a log of all the kids and the schools they attend and at the beginning of the school year, you get your name announced during the morning announcements if you participated. My dd really liked that .

They're a godsend for my ds.
