I had all four wisdom teeth "cut out" the bottom two had erupted and now since they are gone there is "pits" in my mouth where they were?!?!? I didnt expect this??? I go back Monday but wanted to know what the norm was.. I dont like the idea of having these "pits""caves" "holes" in my gums! It is gross! Food will get stuck in there. Is this normal?? Why didn't they sew this up??? I just really want to know if I am alone in this???? I hate to go in and have them tell me yes it's normal, if it is not...

When did you have it done? I had pits after the surgery for quite a while, but don't anymore. Not really. At the time I had to use a water syringe to clean them out. I can't remember how long it took to heal.... a couple of months maybe?

I had pits in my gums for a couple of months after wisdom teeth surgery. All I did was used mouthwash after I brushed my teeth to flush anything that could be stuck in there. After a couple of months, the pits went away.

I had a bottom wisdom tooth removed in March and I have a HUGE hole where the tooth was. I had to get stitches. The tooth was out most of the way but they said it was hard to get out. Anyway, I still have the hole but it is healing over pretty good. They gave me a syringe to keep it clean. I also hate the fact there is a huge hole in my gum but it is healing over pretty good and should close in a couple more months!

Were you not told about this? That's a HUGE point of post-op care. You CAN get food in there and that is why you can't eat certain (most) foods for awhile after you've had it done because you can get bits in there that can get infected. Run searches on "dry socket" and "endocarditis" to get the full gyst of the dangers.
The holes where the teeth were are totally normal and WILL heal over. Just take good care of them!
