Rainbow play systems

Does anyone know anything about these?

Also, I know that the wood on certain playsets are treated with CCA (chromated copper arsenate) a preservative commonly applied to the pressure-treated wood used to build playground equipment and aresnic is one of the componets.

I was told that playsets built from now on do not contain this; is that accurate??

we have a huge rainbow playsystem... i know they are treated with something to preserve the wood but i dont think its cca.... fwiw we love our playground and never had a problem with it...
actually this is our 2nd one... when we moved we left the original for the new owners... rainbow is pricey but well worth it IMO

How timely. We were just at the Rainbow dealer this afternoon. Wow, those are nice, pricey playsets. Unbelievable! The lentil loved playing on them, but we were totally bowled over by the price. I want to get something that will withstand years of play with two boys, but spending $3000.00 for a playhouse seems a bit excessive.

According to their brochure:
CCA is now banned for use with playsets. ACQ pressure-treated pine is used in many playsets, but not in Rainbow playsets.
Rainbow systems use lumber (only cedar and redwood) that is Sustainable Forestry Certified, which means 5 trees are planted for every 1 harvested. (My husband has a PhD in forestry and said that this is actually pretty important.)

The fact that they use cedar and redwood is good, both for the longevity of the structure and the quality of the wood.

Well this all happened quickly since I first posted this thread.

We had our Rainbow installed today while dd and I were out. She is napping now and I want to wake her so bad so that she can see it!!!

We got a really nice playset from Sam's Club. Waaaaaaay cheaper and made from untreated cedar and cypress woods. There is a woodstain on some of the wood, but it is not treated like pressure-treated wood is. It is awesome and so much more affordable, and is really nice. Nicely made, and looks really good up.
