Thanks so much for the help on the gift for the 8 year old boy! The spy gear was a super duper hit!! He wore it from the time I gave it to him until we left 2 days later. I am sure he is still wearing it. You all are the best.

My dd is 6yo, turning 7 in June. She is a big fan of the Littlest Pet Shop toys. There
are the small sets for around $6 and much larger sets upto $60 or more. My dd and
her friends have a good time playing with these sets. I've kept dd from most popular
toys but these she enjoys so much, and takes very good care of.

Some sort of board game? At that age my dds liked chess, checkers, Candy Land, Sorry, Parchesi, Mancala, Trouble, Shoots & Ladders etc.

Also, a box of art supplies is always fun-- watercolors, tempra, colored chalk, tape, glue sticks, glitter, markers, stapler, hole punch etc., are some things all my kids liked/like.

If you do the book route, my dd *adored* Milly Molly Mandy, & Children of Noisy Village books at that age.

Nothing will top the spy gear for my friends 8 year old. That was such a hit!

SB kids has a cloth playhouse with five beanie baby sized kitties. It is an absolutely awesome toy for a child that age. I got one for my little boy's sixth birthday and he was over the moon. And of course, there is always FLOAM!
