Anyone see the Oh! Oxygen commercial?

At my local grocery store they have some TV monitors to zombify you while you are waiting in line. Today they had some Oh! Oxygen commercial playing, I didnt catch the whole thing but it was reccomending mothers buy small pop up tents to bring out in public with them to hide in while BF becuase it could be illegal or "embarassing" to NIP.

Just thinking about it makes me laugh at how absurd that idea is. Can you imagine carrying around a pop up tent and crawling in it every time your baby is hungry, not mention how hot it gets inside when the sun is beating down on it.

I don't doubt that was the entire point.

Can you find a picture of it online? I can't imagine how it work. How weird! (And grrr about how it might be "illegal" to NIP )

Yeah...right now I'm picturing the small pop up tents we used to use as little kids to camp in the back yard. Surely that couldn't be what they meant. Any suggestion that a mom "needs" to cover up isn't right, but the pop up tent is just kind of hilarious. I can just picture a mom pitching a tent in the middle of the grocery store to nurse her kiddo for 10 minutes then coming out and taking it all down and going about her business.

I hope they weren't seriously suggesting this.

W/ how pissed DS gets at the waiting for me to pull my bra down...If I had to pitch a tent first...sheesh I'd have to move in!!!

Yeah, and see that's what I mean. If it's so universally believed that NIP is illegal, then that explains why so many women are asked to leave places on "public decency" grounds. the real law needs much more publicity!

WHAT? I guess it brings a whole new meaning to "pitch a tent" That's about as absurd as those Podee bottle holder thingies. Uggghhh......

This is now one of two threads about this, and I am just dumbfounded that folks are assuming them to be serious! Folks: when it seems too ridiculous to be true, it probably is! There's something out there called hyperbole--exaggerating something for effect. I'm certain they thought that the suggestion of a pop-up tent is so ridiculous and so far out that folks would immediately recognize it for what it was.

Really? I'm all for a good joke (and I know Oxygen has that show Girls Behaving Badly), but would they really put a joke ad on a supermarket checkout line?

The pop up tents are those light weight nylon play tents. They fold down easily and fit in a large bag. Something like this http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B000EUD9JK

I really dont think it was meant to be a joke. I didnt catch the whole thing but it didnt seem like they were trying to make a joke. It was going on about how much fun the tents were for kids to play in and how convienient they were to nurse in. The suggestion isnt all that outlandish when you consider that people are routinely asked to BF in a bathroom or leave a store or public place.

LOL, I got one of those HUGE pop-up tents from One Step Ahead for the beach...they do let the air through pretty well, but I wouldn't tote it around to nurse in! Thats just silly.

Hmmm... could come in handy if I'm at the mall and see my SIL coming!

I havent seen it, but oyxgen has lots of commercial with stupid "tips" that are jokes. They had lots over the holidays about surviving inlaws (or was that TLC?). I just don't think anyone would ACTUALLY suggest a tent. It would create huge problems for everyone involved. I dont think any marketing exec is THAT stupid.

Maybe they were specifically talking about the park or the beach? I know they advertise those pop up tents for the beach...I think OSA used to say something about being big enough for mom to sit in as well.

Not saying it's right or anything, but I do know those tents are pretty useful for keeping the sun off...not sure why Oxygen would add something about NIP being illegal, that seems really weird.

Perhaps you can talk to the manager of that store and see what the policy is about what is played on those TVs?
