really, really early teeth. help?

hi,

my six-weeks-old-tomorrow (yes, i said weeks) little baby girl is getting a TOOTH. the usual first one, on the front bottom. we noticed what looked like buds under the gum when she was born, but thought that really unlikely. sure enough, though, she has a tiny white tooth just barely poking through, we noticed today. she's clearly uncomfortable with it, and i went to give her hyland's gel, but noticed that it's in a paraben base. then went to give her hyland's tablets, and then remembered that it's in a lactose base, i'm assuming from cow milk, and, well...she's only six weeks old! does anyone have any similar experience to share, or advice for relief for such a little one?

thanks,
jennifer

I used Nelsons Teetha sometimes and my understanding is that it's just camomile powder. I don't know if that's suitable for such a wee babe, but it might be worth looking into.

i was just about to post the same thing...

my son is nine weeks old today and yesterday i noticed a tooth coming in on the top left side of his gums...(is that normal?)

he's been trying to stick his entire fist in his mouth, is he too young to give him something cold to chew on (yanno, one of those rubbery things)..is that a dumb question??
it kind of caught me off guard, too...

i've just been breastfeeding everytime he got upset about it....

Probably too young to chew on it (and hold it for himself) but the coolness might give him some relief anyway.

Both of my babies were early teether's. They had 4 teeth by 4 months and 8 by 8 months. I just used a cool , wet wash cloth, not frozen and my finger. The plastic teethers just didn't help until they were 4-5 months old and even then they could not hold it to chew without assistance.

what's wrong with paraben? (i don't even know what it is)

Boiron's Camilia is an alternative to the Hyland's stuff. You can get it at Whole Foods or Wild Oats or online, maybe some other local stores have it. It's single-used vials of liquid. It would be easy to only give her half a vial, but there is no age limit on the packaging that I recall. It works well for us, but we didn't use it til 5 months.

Other than that, I second gum massage and a cold washcloth to suck/gum. Hope it goes quickly!
