Learning to Give Discussion

My 7 year-old daughter has been asking a lot of questions about the purpose of our lives. She has confessed to feeling "funny" and "sad" about feeling that our lives are meaningless. She has been involved in volunteer work, but not often enough IMO. We do the UU curriculum on Sundays (in case anyone wonders if she has any sense of spirituality).

I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in doing these activities with their 7-11 year olds and discussing the results/their reactions here.

Wow, those seem like some deep thoughts for a 7 year old! That is so cool though. I don't remember being that thoughtful at that age.

My oldest will be 5 next month, but it's interesting so I am going to check out the web site. I was actually thinking of checking out the UU church, but haven't been yet. I don't like the idea of "church" which is why I have been putting it off.

What is the UU curriculum?

It just goes to show how important it is to give kids a sense of direction and purpose while they are still young.

Yes, it was an intense discussion. She kept asking "Why are we born?" And I would reply that I felt that we are here to help other human beings. And she would reply, "No, mama, I mean why are we even born at all?"

The UU (Unitarian Universalist) curriculum is something put out every month for kids. It contains an activity to do for each Sunday of the month. It includes traditions from around the world, a lot of earth-centered stuff, a lot of good poetry to read, etc. We just started doing it a few months ago, so my dd probably doesn't have a good sense of it yet.

Yesterday we looked at some websites about kids doing things to make a difference. That was interesting for her. She liked the idea of working in an animal shelter.

Anyway, so nobody's interested in doing this with me?

Oh, and yah, I definitely did NOT think about stuff like this when I was 7. For me it was baseball and that was about it.
