Now THERE'S a shock! {warning: now 100% rant compliant!}

Guess what y'all? The military is of the opinion that they will need to occupy Iraq for an absolute minimum of 10 years. 10 damn years!!!!! MINIMUM. And the nice people at Bush Inc are going to act surprised by this, I suppose. You know, because of how quickly we brought democracy to South Korea and then left them to their own resources. I am furious! Livid! Disgusted!

Will post sources in the AM if no one beats me to it. Too mad just now.

I believe it - and 10 years AT LEAST - and even then, who knows what a pandoras box of other problems this will release over time. Like my sig used to say, "If you can't win the peace - don't fight the war!"

No Ma'am! Never.:LOL

That sucks, Kama. Ten years is a very long time. I can see why you're upset. If I had a dh in the military, I'd be fuming too, not to mention the *lunacy* of our country taking on such a huge and impossible project.

I'm not surprised, someone bump that poll that we had a few months back asking how long the war will go on. I posted there that I thought we would be there for years.

Let's seee we have 50 some americans in Iraq since the official ceasefire (well maybe they didn't use that term?) but the supposed end of the war.

Yep, Can O'Beans. The majority of the MDC folks predicted this outcome. The Iraqis were not going to be given their (destroyed) country to manage after the war ended. No way.

Bush told the world that the US/Brits would stay in Iraq 'not a minute longer than necessary'. I never understood that to mean a quick stay.

What with oil to own, er protect, and 'extremists' to keep down, education to Westernize, installations to build, money to keep, cell phone networks to hang?

These things take time. Isn't that what we've been asked to be as of late? Patient. Because WMD aren't found in a day, nor is regime change and nation building accomplished in a fortnight.

I'm wondering where the civilian bodies are buried from the invasion? Do the Iraqis have US/Brit permission to bury their precious loved ones where they want?

AND lets fold in this stat.....

I saw in the NY time that we have lost 40 something men since may.

so, that is basically one a soldier a day.

365 days a year, times 10 years........
well you do that figure....

this is a number that even saddam would be pleased by. Oh, yeah, and he is still out there by the way...

basically if I was the mother of a soldier and he died in a drive by shooting in bagdhad I would be so mad. why are we there again?

oil, oil, oil, oil, oil....

can someone please put an oil rig icon in our smilies section...
