Hi there Happymom83

You could make him a ship - link below, this is just made from cardboard boxes.
www.mrmcgroovys.com/pirate_ship.htm

How about a sword? just find a template from a clip art site or draw one your self, put it on sturdy cardboard and can cover it in alfoyle or silver paper, and get him to help decorate the handle (if you are nifty with wood you could even do it on ply wood) and decorate with buttons and sparkels?

you could make a parrot for his shoulder from felt scraps or paper roll holders or milk cartons heres a site for inspiration

you could make a telescope from a long paper roll/toilet paper roll paint and it black

A treasure chest from a shoe box, cover it in paper or paint it, and fill it with old necklaces or some of your sons old toys and coins made from alfoyle

Here is another site i have just found which could also be useful

Hope you and you son have fun, make sure you post some pics!!

Peasant blouse with lace at the neck and cuffs?

Not sure how into it your little boy would be, but I find children of both sexes enjoy a bit of bling!

an eye patch and a bag of gold doubloons. A sash belt or a belt with a big buckle.

You could make a costume out of a paper bag. Dd's preschool did it as a project recently. Decorate the bag so it looks like your favorite costume, cut out arm holes and cut out a hole for the head. Then split the bag up the front, just like a dress shirt.

This is my first post in this forum! I just happened across this thread while looking for info for a male type headband that LOOKED SO PIRATEY! It goes across the forehead and is very wide and then has beads or threads or other things hanging down on the sides. SO COOL. Any ideas for where to find a prototype or pattern?

an easy hook hand is to cover a styrofoam cup with tin foil. Take another piece and make it into a hook, then poke a hole with a pencil through the cup and put the hook in to he can hold onto the non-curved part.

We used Mr. potato head's gold-colored hoop earring over my son's ear and it looked great!

Also it's fun to make a jolly Roger flag from black foam or construction paper with white paint to hang in his room.

Don't forget lemonade to drink (against scurvy)!

I made red sashes, swords made out of bright blue ostrich feathers (we were in a wiggles phase), triangle-shaped do-rag thingies with brightly striped fabric, and eye patches with black elastic and black fleece for ds's 3rd birthday. We also had a plank to walk (kraft paper on the floor) and a scavenger hunt, which was a huge hit and very cooperative. For the scavenger hunt, we made pictures of things around the house, and the clues were just pictures of the next thing.

Cool ideas! Ds is obsessed with pirates so we're going to do a pirate party for his birthday in July. I'm crocheting him a pirate hat out of cheep black yarn and then I'm going to felt it and attach a feather. If/when I do it I'll post a pattern (if it turns out good )
