Anyone specificially TTC a girl? - Page 5

This is some info I got a few weeks ago just through internet searches. I think most of it came from a study that had been done.
For a boy, consume salt, meat, fish, jams, dried veggies, wine, beer, oranges, peaches. DH should drink coffee/tea (it speeds up the swimmers). And avoid 'girl' foods.
For a girl, increase calcium/magnesium - eggs, dairy, nuts, brown rice, dark green veggies, whole grains. DH should avoid caffeine. And avoid 'boy' foods.

I don't know how accurate any of this is. They don't recommend trying for a boy this way, because they don't want women increasing salt and meat which can be unhealthy. But there is no harm in trying the girl diet, you never know...

Need advice ASAP!

Hi mamas!

What a great thread...I've been following it w/great interest and learned so much here. We are currently in our 1st month of TTC #2 and are trying for a girl (#1 is a boy and boys are SO fabulous, I'm actually a bit scared of having a girl now, but feel like I just have to give it a shot, lol).

I'm really interested in the 0+12 method since it seems so much easier to time than Shettles...am wondering if it is meant to favor girls because the sperm have to be heartier (i.e. female) to swim further to reach the egg once it's already been released? Anyway, I'd planned to try it this cycle but we got a little too excited (ahem) about getting pregnant and BD this past Thursday...I'm guessing that O will occur tomorrow (Sunday) or Monday. I'm charting my temps/CF/etc but have a hard time figuring out the whole cervix thing. I've had increased EWCF in the past two days so am pretty confident that I'm fertile.

I suppose this gives us an ok shot at a girl (I've been taking cranberry but not enough I don't think; it's hard to read the pH strips so I'm not sure if I'm at 5 or just over/under)...also, we'd abstained for 7 days before, used missionary position & shallow entry. But here's my question...once my morning temp shows that O has occured, would it be a good idea to try BD again that morning even though it will have been less than 7 days since the last time DH ejaculated? Why is it that no ejaculation is meant to have occured for 7 whole days prior to BD? And if we tried again after O but before 7 more days had passed since BD, would we have a better or worse chance of conceiving a girl?

Aak! Help! Sorry this is so confusing! :

Once I wake up to a temperature spike I'll need to know right away whether or not we should BD, so hopefully someone out there will be able to offer some sage wisdom.
To make things even more complicated we are taking an international flight on Tuesday morning, so if I haven't O'd by then I don't know what I'm going to do.

Thank you all so very much in advance for any advice!
And Gillian28, any word yet on your June attempts at TTC?

Hey,
Well, still no positive test for me, but I'm 10 dpo tomorrow and will be testing again!
I actually started out using Shettles, the science behind makes a lot more sense to me. Shettles recommends dtd closer to O for a boy because male sperm are faster and will win the race. To have a girl, you should already have spermies waiting for the egg to release, because girl sperm are better at hanging around. Anyway, because my O dates are so irregular I actually end up basically bding right up to O. So basically my ttc a girl method involves naturally lowing sperm count by dtd daily (which also leaves more sperm hanging around), the diet stuff, and the summer heat (which could also increase girl survival). I'm hoping all these methods together (along with just me hoping) will do the trick.
Maybe someone else has more info on the o+12 method. imo if you know your O date, Shettles is better :

Good Luck!!

hey mamas! Just lurking around here b/c I have serious baby fever (no baby for me though ) but I wanted to read through this interesting thread.

I thought you should know that Shettles no longer recommends doing the douche method for either gender. He released a revised book about a year ago. REALLY well written. I reviewed it for my website (PM me if you want a link to the review).

I feel like his methods made a lot of sense scientifically. He discusses some other methods and why he feels they are incorrect.

Mamas taking the supplements, where have you heard about them from? Shettles said in his book he thought diet could have a part to play but hadn't researched it himself very much.

I found it somewhere on the internet. I am trying the cranberry tablets. If you do a search for cranberry and conceiving a girl you should find several links. This cycle I o'ed way early for me so I wasn't taking the cranberry tablets yet - so if I got preggers this cycle it is out of my control even more than normal.

However, we have 3 boys and have to try ONE more time for a girl. We'll probably start in August.

What are you doing to ttc a girl? I am going to do cranberry and calcium/magnesium supplements, but I am a little leery of timing intercourse 3-4 days before ovulation, as outlined in the Shettles method.

MamasBoys..... Just a little reminder to keep us posted! You and I have tons in common and I'm watching you closely It's August..... are we getting started????

We're ttc'ing & hoping for a girl :

However, I don't chart so we're just BD'ing every other day.

That & drinking cranberry juice (also to help prevent UTIs).

It worked for us last time -- maybe with the every other day method the sperm are always up there 'early'.

I would really like a boy this time (I think ) Here is a link to the basic's of Shettles Method!

Hello. I'm just lurking here & really enjoying your posts. Wow! This stuff is really confusing! We're not ttc yet, but are currently in debate about when we will start ttc #2. We (read I) REALLY want a girl next, and I'm with several of you who have said you're going to basically use all the methods you can find to make it happen. Although, of course, I'll be very happy if dc#2 is another boy. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who's posting so much useful information here. I'm writing it all down in my "Having a Girl" notebook, lol, for future use. Good pink vibes to all you mammas!

Add me to the lurkers list. DS#2 is just 7 months and AF didn't return until 18 months pptm after DS#1 so I probably have a while to go before we get serious about TTC again (if I'm still up for it after these two boys ).

I would like a girl and was taking cranberry tablets....BUT this cycle I o'ed 2 weeks early and had just started taking the cranberry. Now, it is truly up to fate as to whether I have a girl or boy. I honestly will be happy with either as long as he/she is healthy.

Does anyone know of any surveys that show successful percentages? It seems like every survey I have read shows that all of the various method to TTC a girl don't work. I would love to see some good results before trying all of these things.

TIA

DS#2 10/14/05

Hey everybody, I'm still here! We put TTC on pause and this month was our official month. I just got off the pill, so things are still wacky. Plus, I'm breastfeeding. I've been charting but my temps and CF have been up and down so I don't think I've ovulating this month.

I've been taking cranberry and calcium magnesium and cannot for the life of me, get my pH to 5 or 5.5. It might just be my strips though. They totally suck. It's just the tear off paper instead of the sticks.

Anyone else TTC a girl or pregnant and waiting to find out the gender (or already found out?) I'd love to keep this thread alive!

We'd love a girl this time. The only method I thought seemed to make the most sense without tinkering too much with anything was just timing BD'ing so that all the poor Y sperm would already have kicked the bucket when the egg appeared!

It definitely does make sense, but strangely enough, it's the only part of the method I'm not doing. I just don't want it to take forever to get pregnant. Don't have the patience for that!

Does anyone know how long you have to be on the cranberry for it to be effective? I don't plan to ttc until September but I want to be ready!!

I am soooooo excited that everyone is back on this thread! This way I can continue to bring all of my questions here and stop harassing the other mommies in the "TTC" FORUM

So..... any Girls yet????
I stopped trying for a girl months ago. I would like to have a girl, but more than that I'd like to have a baby.

eli's mama - I think it starts working pretty much right away. I would think you could start it the cycle you were trying or maybe the cycle before that just in case.
