Those in the UK: what is "biological washing powder?"

Is this used for washing clothes?

(If so that's what we in the USA would call "powdered laundry detergent.")

And what does "biological" mean? Something about enzymes?

Is there a similar product in the USA?

It has proteolytic enzymes in it that "eat" the stains....

ETA: its good for blood, sweat, egg yolks...any stains that are proteinaceous in nature.

I've never seen Fairy soap in the USA but I see it in old ads sometimes. That's cool that it's still around in the UK. Old Fairy ad from the United States:

Oh 'How clean is your house?' is great. I love that they don't use many harsh chemicals nor rip out the kitchen or bathroom and replace it to make it look good again.

Bio powder really works for cleaning hobs and sticky grill pans, I can vouch for it! I make some sticky meatballs with honey, mustard and soy sauce and once the pan has been under the grill the only thing that will get that burnt honey off is boiling water and bio powder left to soak overnight. It is usually used to wash clothes - sorry I missed that bit of your question.

We use Fairy liquid to was dishes too. It is great for blowing bubbles with a wand

I have a tin advertisement for Fairy Soap in my bathroom (the blue one in the middle of the second link). Never seen the real soap in the store though.

I know! Dd actually gags during the gross parts, but she still loves it! I love how the blond lady wears mini-skirts and high-heels when they first go into a house. She rules!

I have a new obsession w/ that show, too...but I also get grossed out by Aggie smelling everything and them touching stuff w/o gloves. Yuck-o! The show is always on when I nurse Blaise so Cole and I watch it while Blaise eats. I also like "You Are What You Eat" which is on right before HCIYH.

ok so did some looking.

Biological powder is laundry detergant (or washing powder as they say down here in the south) with enzymes.

So powdered Tide and Gain for sure. It has it (enzymes) listed in the ingredients.

Hope that helps anyone else who was wondering.
