Wow- my neighbor! he's changed his mind!

I just got inside from a conversation with my neighbor (the same one who, about a month ago, got angry at me for breastfeeding my boy in the backyard). I was wearing my "lactivist" Tshirt and he asked me if I was into "promotion" which I took to mean activism, so i started talking about why i do it...and, on a whim, I brought up how much money could be saved in our health/tax dollars if more women breastfed.

And he got on board! He started asking questions about how it affects his money and I talked about things like WIC and the better health of breastfed babies, connecting it all back to his tax dollars. when he walked away, he was nodding and totally gave me the vibe that he was in agreement with me and wouldn't be saying anythign more about me breastfeeding in the back yard.

I am totally shocked right now, but very positively so. It may not be the BEST reason to be probreastfeeding, but if it works...go with it

It is funny that it took you making a connection on how ff affects his pocketbook to convince him that bfing your child on your own property (which does not affect him and is none of his buisness) is ok.
: The way some peoples minds work:

Anyway, congrats on the good vibes from your neihbor.

Yeah, that's great! We just need to find what part of the pro-breastfeeding movement moves people. I think I'll use that if my step-dad brings up not BF again - he's a staunch republican who can't stand his $ going to programs for other people.

This is the part of "it's nobody's business if I BF," that drives me nuts. People take it all so personally. It is everyones business, for a multitude of reasons that I'd be preaching to the choir if I listed out.

And, this is another reason why it burns me up about the new BF law in PA. They took out the part about the benefits, etc., of BF b/c they didn't want to make anyone feel bad who doesn't BF. Are these the same politicians who'll cut spending on everything yet continue to give millions upon millions to WIC for formula and then spend even more of OUR MONEY on the health care for those same people who are on WIC who now suffer from more illnesses because of formula??? : :

Rant over.

Yup, it's all connected. If NIP was more accepted, more babies would be nursed, Americans will be healthier and less tax money would be used on medical expenses for FF babies. Being comfy with NIP is something that EVERYBODY in society needs to do, no matter how old your kids are, how they are/were fed, or even if you have kids at all!

I remember your previous post. I'm so glad this guy changed his mind, even if purely for fiscal reasons!
