MTB vs. AAMI

Anyone here have experience with both? I've narrowed my distance learning midwifery options down to these two. I, of course, like the smaller price tag with MTB ... but I am wondering if it's a "you get what you pay for" kind of thing. I've heard of well-qualified midwives who prepared for the NARM through MTB/apprenticeship with no problems, though I hear SO many people say that AAMI is the most thorough preparation for midwifery available. I know that either course will only be as good as the time and energy I put into it.

I'm moving to Tennessee over the summer, so I'd be close enough to attend the MTB weekend classes and skills weekends with no issue. So that's a plus, there ... though there are no required attendance classes with AAMI.

I guess I'm just looking for some input from those who have BTDT, or who are more experienced and wiser ... or even just someone who has a definite opinion either way. I'm really conflicted.

I'm doing the Intro to Midwifery course with AAMI. I really like it. BUT I'm still considering MTB also. I do like that it's cheaper with no deadlines. I think I'm going to do their first course as well so I can compare better before jumping in with AAMI. Just by doing the ITM with AAMI makes me think it's very in depth compared to the sample course they show for MTB.

I'm doing MTB. I'm finishing up unit 1. I went with it because of the price tag, the fact that it seemed pretty thorough and that all of Lisa's graduates have gone on to pass the NARM. It does have some quirks, but so far I really like it. I would probably prefer AAMI, but I can't afford it right now. Once I complete MTB and my apprenticeship (which I'm starting in 3 weeks woohoo!) if I feel like I'm still lacking, I'll probably take AAMI or something else. One of the other things that made me decide to take the MTB course was that most of the books on the list are the books for the much more expensive courses. I hope that helps! Best wishes for your journey!
