Reading print Vs. Cursive

My dd is 4 and is starting to read. She knows all her letter sounds from the sandpaper letters and does very well with the movable alphabet and sounding words out. But, I am finding that when we try to read out of books at home written in print she is having some trouble with some of the letter sounds. For example she will say that a print m makes the nnnn sound. Well, the m looks like a cursive n. Is this normal? What can we do? She is really excited about learning to read but seems to get discoraged when she doesnt get all the letter sounds correct. Are there beginning reader books in cursive?

My Dd has trouble with the cursive writing, too, troubles she never had before Montessori.

I asked about it here:

I haven't really gotten a good answer, though. I don't like the emphasis on cursive, but I like everything else in Montessori.

Our school is AMS and uses print rather than cursive, but my dd (almost 6) is much more at ease writing words with the moveable alphabet than trying to read print, so I am not sure if it is just easier at first to build words that decipher them or what. I do know that in her classroom, even with printed letters rather than cursive, the emphasis is on writing first, then reading. I am not a huge fan of kids reading early, as now reading at night and cuddling is our major AP practice, and I remember not wanting to read out loud to my own mom, and the reason I gave her at age 6 was"as soon as you knew I could tie my shoes, you never tied them anymore, so I didn't want you to know I could read, cause then you wouldn't read to me anymore..."

With my older dd, I left it up to the directress to let me know if she was worries (she never was) and SHE was reading independently around 7 1/2, and is now totally on=track for going into high school, so unless the teacher has reservations, or you have reservations about the teacher, don't sweat it...:
