Birth story in a book

I'm studying (slowly!) to be a Cbe and in reading tonight a birth story described how her son was born then taken to a table to be circed and her dh almost died watching it. then baby was given to her and they all went to her room to sleep. the circ bit came just after a page turn and it shocked me the way it was written and done. It didn't tell what year this was, but it seemed to be a while ago. I cant believe someone could do that to their child at all, let alone immidatly after birth! And if it was done like that for her, it was done to others as well. No time for pain meds or any thing. It just makes me so sad. What a sick practice.

her dh almost died from watching it???

What about the poor ds from having it done to him?

...and I wonder what he'll say when he reads that when he grows up.

Callous and cruel.

I think that 30 years ago, most circs were done immediately after birth. Makes me wonder about my poor DH.
