Baby's Temp

DD is 5 weeks and a few days old. Yesterday afternoon I noticed that she felt a little warm to the touch. I took her rectal temp and it was 99.3. Later in the evening, I took it again and it was 99.4.

I read on Babycenter that normal infant temp varies from 97-100.4 (according to the AAP). That made me feel better, but I don't always believe the info on Babycenter....so not sure if I should let that "normal" temp range guide me.

She has no other symptoms. I wish I knew what was normal FOR HER....sometimes people's temps just run high/low consistently, depending on the individual. Do you think I should be worried over a 99.4 temp? Wow - my new-momma colors are really shining through, eh?

That's the info I got from the hospital as well... Anything above 100.4 is considered fever in a baby under 3 mths of age. So you dd is fine!

she is ok! 99 is normal rectal temp

Rectal temps are about 1 degree higher than an oral temp and auxillary temps (under the arm) are typically one degree lower than oral. Your little girl is doing just fine

Yay! Thanks, mommas. Oh gosh - and I have 18 more years of being in this state of paranoia?? (well, really more, since she'll always be my baby )

yes and its not any better with each kid lol worry is what moms do best

i actually do think it is easier with the second (sorry UltimateSerj )

i def am not as paranoid with ds2...but there are always new things as they get older

Logan's was a little high at the peds once. It was 99.3 under his arm which meant the rectal was probably higher - but they weren't concerned since he was acting fine. He had a little bit of a cold that DH brought home but he barely got sick (likely due to breast milk and me having it too.)
