Colorado tf mamas?

I was just wondering how many of us there were and where everyone gets their "goods". I'd love to discover some new sources.

I'm in Evergreen. Raw milk from Windsor Dairy via Evergreen Coop. Pastrued bison, pork, chicken, lamb, eggs from Rocky Plains Quality Meats in Dacono (it is a ranch) . Produce from Vitamin Cottage, but the farmers market is opening up here next week. I still buy my raw cheese from Christian Cheese in OK because it's a true pastured raw cheese.

We're in CO. I thought I had a good source of raw milk, but it fell through which is just as well since it'd be a very long drive a few times a month to pick it up. Instead we buy vat-pasteurized, non-homogenized milk from our co-op.

We get our veggies from the local health food store, but the farmer's market is opening in early July and CSAs will be available then. DH also does some volunteer work for a friend of ours who runs a non-profit organic farm and we get a lot of good produce and pastured eggs that way.

DH doesn't eat meat, so I rarely cook it at home.

reviving this thread, as we are considering (strongly considering) relocating to the ft. collins area. I would love to hear more about where tf-ers get their goods, and what the cost of said items is.

I moved from Fort Collins last year!

We got our milk from the Windsor Dairy. It should be just s nice hop and skip over there for you to pick it up, well, about 20 minutes from the center of old town in Fort COllins. THere's at least 3 different farmer's markets throughout the week and on saturdays there.

Gardenmommy,
We looked at moving there too. Windsor dairy is all grass no grain and the woman who runs it is a vet, but uses no chemicals/hormones at all.

FC also has a food coop.

Here is a listing for all the FC farmers markets :

This is very good info. Can you give me ballpark figures on what you spend for your TF-type foods from the farm? I don't really have much to compare with, as I just get it straight from my parents (yes, I do have it very good!).

We get our milk, cream, goat's milk kefir, yogurt from Johnson's Acres in Brighton. Also get our eggs from there or a guy in Niwot or from Cure Organic farms (when we can because the eggs are awesome. Beef from a place in Gunbarel (can't remember the name). Produce from Vitamin Cottage.

We get ours from Johnson's Acre's too.

$30.00 cow share gets you 1 gallon a week of milk. We pay $3.50 for an extra 1/2 gallon each week, $8.00 for a quart of cream and $7.50 for 3 dozen bug and whey eating eggs from them as well each week.

Plus there is a ton of other stuff you can order from them! And they post their tests regulary. They do make raw cheese too and have co-ops set up all over the place!

They have a potluck coming up on June 9th.
I am not either, but it is something I keep meaning to do but never get around to. How do you get on their mailing list?

Hi back at you Thistle. Where are you located? We're in north Boulder. Dontcha just love Annalise and Johnson's Acres! I spend a fortune there every week. Not to mention we get four gallons of milk!
uccomama.. We are probably about 30 miles away from you then, down in "town".

Yep... we spend a decent chunk there too but it's soooooooooooo good!

I got on the mailing list by emailing the owner of the site to ask how it all worked. Now I get sent emails when they do stuff.

Gardenmommy-
I paid $50 per share (refundable) for raw milk. I pay $92 per month boarding which entitles me to 3 gallons per week (including delivery fee). I buy ground bison for $4 per pound, ground lamb $6 per pound, pork $6 per pound, pastured chickens $2.95 per pound, pastured eggs 2.75 per dozen.
I just went to the Golden farmers market this past weekend and was bummed to see that neither produce farmer has organic signs. I asked them anyway and found that both were pesticide free and rotated crops, but just didn't advertise. Their prices were very reasonable.

We've got a new traditional foods group with sections for different areas of the country. The purpose of this group is to help you locate sources for TF products. Here's the link- http://www.nourishingourfamilies.org...forum.php?f=12

Thank you for posting your cost. I find it very helpful in thinking about what our costs might be like associated with living in that area. We aren't 100% committed to Ft. Collins, but are very strongly considering it. Knowing what our grocery bill will be like is a factor, as we have 4 children (small now, but they still manage to consume a boatload of food!).

I would love to hear more experiences.

Thanks!

Question about Johnson's Acres cheese

I was just wondering what Johnson's Acres raw sharp and mild cheddar were like. It looks like my raw cheese farmer in OK might have problems shipping his cheese to me so I have to find another source.

Thanks!
I may be wrong, but I believe its just Organic Valley raw milk cheese bought in bulk and repackaged. To be sure I would email Annalise, I think you can contact her via the website.
