toddler throwing toys

Hi, my 21 month old currently throws everything. Today he hit me in the head with a car: . A while back I started teaching him that balls are for throwing- nothing else. So, you know what he does? When ever he decides to throw a non-ball item, he throws it, looks at me and says "ball' or 'basketball' I try very hard not to let him see me laugh, but really, it's getting old and I really want him to stop. Is this a phase? What else can I do beside redirect him?

It is a phase.

It is a very, very, very annoying and LONG phase

It took my son nearly a year to grow out of it. Just in time for his sister to grow into it. Yay.

My daughter is also in the throwing-things phase. She's just figured out that she CAN throw things, so she delights in doing it.

I just tell her not to throw things at people, but to direct them towards the middle of the room, or in the yard. She's pretty good about it, especially if I can say it right *before* she throws the item, she'll actually turn her body so that she's not throwing it at someone.

Okay, well it's good to know it's just a phase that he'll grow out of by next spring
