UGH! Not even a week and I've screwed up : I was doing so good too! I got sucked into buying an extra $19 on organic fruit today when we picked up our CSA share. The check won't go in until after DH gets paid, but I really shouldn't have. We will definitely eat it, but it was quite a splurge! I love summertime at the farm but I spend so much extra in the farm store after picking up our share each week on things like organic cherries or mangoes. I suppose it could be worse...I could have bought a coffee or something stupid instead. At least it was a healthy splurge...

Rebecca -- Stop being so hard on yourself. Spending money for food is necessary, even if it is food you could have survived without. Think of the money you will be saving on medical bills because your family is healthy and happy. You had an EXCELLENT week!

Nina -- I was in your shoes during the May no-spend challenge. In your little strappy shoes. I had to fly to Colorado for a wedding and it was expensive. I finally just levelled with my friend -- you're a bridesmaid so you are good friends, right? -- and told her that we did not have the money for a lot of this stuff (airfare, dress, hotel, dinners out during the weekend of the wedding, etc.) The whole wedding party went on a white water rafting trip that I had to decline because of $$ and I just did my own hair, nails, and makeup. But, just like you, I've decided no more weddings for me unless it is my close close friends (who are now finally all married) or family. They are so expensive.

Kim -- Go take those library books BACK. Now.

Jenny & Carla -- Again you two are having fantabulous months! Go Frugalistas!

Not to mention that this wedding is in B.C. so that's three nights in a hotel at $65 each. Oh, right, and I'm hosting a bridal shower. The bride just sent me an email asking if I wanted to go for a $40 mani/pedi and I said NO. This is nuts. My bridesmaids only spent $100 each on dresses from the mall, and maybe a few bucks buying me drinks for my stagette. Next time somebody I'm not that close to asks me to be a bridesmaid I'm saying NO. Aaaaaah, I sound so bitter. I should be happy to be so loved and included in her life. But I'm on a limited income here!
I feel you, I have to drive 9-10 hours in a week or so for a wedding. Thats atleast $100+ in gas, $130 for the dress, $55 to get my hair done, probably have to get a pedicure, I bought her a present, me and dh are missing work.....I wish I said no now The good things are I am staying with my mom for free and I am reusing the shoes I wore in my wedding.

Getting behind here

I guess I'm lucky there's no Target here. It sounds like a dangerous place

I am going to come right out and say that I am going to spend some money today . I don't know how much, probably not much. The kids are at the IL's, DH is working until suppertime and I want a little fun! I think I'll hit the dollar store and get some cheapie art supplies and other little things we need. The kids do need some. I'll also go to the bread store as it's too hot to make bread and we're almost out. Oh and I want to get a little treat for me . It's a : I won't mind getting and unless I get some watercolor paper, I shouldn't spend any more than $20. It's great and all to be frugal but a girl needs a little fun!

Hi everyone, I'm still here, and still on the wagon.

I have had no more library fines , so am hoping to finish out June with just the .75c one, not bad, and a great promise for July!

My only other non-essential spending has been a big cell phone bill. Last month was a crazy one for the ongoing family crisis that I am working with, and hooo doggies that phone bill showed it. I need to really tackle that issue right away, get a system, and work it. I am about to change over to my own account from a shared account, and I have to take the time to (ironically) call around to get the best deal. So overage minutes are the big avoidable expense currently on my radar screen.

Beyond that, I am trying to process more clearly needs vs. wants now that my income is wayyy smaller than my monthly costs, and I am dipping into savings each month to get by. Last month I bought a replacement toilet, but maybe I should have just stopped using that one, since we have two others. It's this kind of shifting in thinking that I am struggling with right now. Two months ago, it would have been a no brainer that you replace the broken toilet (and the sink, and the AC, and the fan...it was an expensive month for home upkeep). But this is a whole new world. Maybe a third toilet is a want not a need! It just seems hard for my mind to wrap around letting parts of the house crap out and let it be. I guess my thinking will adjust, one day at a time, and all will become clear. I think one thing that will really help is when I have a firm agreement around child support and when I have established sources of income.

I have decided to go ahead and use AC, at 80 or 82, with ceiling fans. It may be that a future summer I simply will not have that option, and it is certainly a risk to even do it this year since finances are so up in the air, but for now, it is what I have chosen. Of course, it squeals like a pig half the time, and the AC people say it is dying and will cost $2500 to replace......so it may be a sweaty summer after all...

$42.64 on some clothes for DS

Total: $56.64

Man, when I blow it, I really blow it, huh? In my defense, the clothes I got for DS are a bunch of jeans and long-sleeved shirts for the coming fall/winter. Believe me, this child has enough clothes for the summer. There's really no defense for the McD's except I really wanted it.

Anybody else in for July? Been thinking about it yet?

Jen, on the whole you're doing great for the month .

I am in for July!! I'm on a roll :

I don't feel like I blew it too bad yesterday, although I spent more than I expected. $13 at Canadian Dollar Store (3 educational board games and a swimming vest for DS). $13 at grocery store for supper (fish and chips : ) and a birthday present I forgot to pick up. $6 at the bread store (should last us a week). $7 at Dollarama for laundry baskets, watercolor paints, floor cleaner and a chocolate bar :. $3 at McDonald's :

Today will be better. If I go anywhere, it will be to the library to pick up some books and maybe videos for the kids instead of renting. Sometime I just miss going to the stores and browsing around and I can't do that if I know I can't spend money. It was nice alone time as I never get to shop alone

Thank you for that. The reality is, DS is going to have to have new clothes this winter b/c he has actually grown and put on some weight! That's a good thing, because he's 4 and weighs about 31 lbs. So if I think I know what size he's going to be, I like to buy stuff ahead of time or off-season. Anyway, so while I didn't expect to spend the money, it's not exactly unnecessary stuff.

I'm in for July as well. My motivation is that it is likely that we are going to move sometime in the first of 2008. I've just starting working on decluttering and weeding out some things we don't need/want/use, so as to not junk up a new house. So I'm trying to keep the influx of new stuff coming into the house at a minimum. I think July is going to be a quieter month for us than June was. Nothing really big (like trips or birthdays) on the agenda.
