Ideas for Napkin Rings for cloth napkins??

So I'm looking for some creative ideas for how we could make some napkin rings for the cloth napkins we use at the table. We do often use them for more than one meal, but need an easier way to identify whose napkin is whose. So I need something that would be easy for each person (including 2 & 4 yr old) to always know was theirs. This is such a creative bunch, I'm hoping someone has some thoughts... TIA!

I made a set of napkin rings once using a bunch of wooden beads and tough string. I strung these various size (chunky) different shades of brown beads to make kind of a intertwined three strand ring, and each ring got one or two beads from another set that were brightly colored, but similar in size to the brown ones. That might work for you, yeah?

You could make some from salt dough, I know my toddler would enjoy it.

2 parts flour to 1 part salt and add water to make a dough. Once you've made you creations you can dry them in a very low oven till hard them paint. For something like napkin rings I'd add a couple of coats or varnish.

I ike the idea of threading beads although I think I'd probably use elastic to thread them on. Hmm if you have unused hair scrunchies they would work. You could tie robbons on to identify each persons.

I was gonna say braided hemp or twine and cool beads that everyone picks themselves....color coded in a way.

If you knit, I've been thinking about making cloth napkins as an excuse to justify making these: http://knitty.com/ISSUEwinter06/PATTvenezia.html
I think I just decided to make these as bracelets for gifts... pass the wire, will ya?

OMG, those knit napkin rings are gorgeous and definitely perfect for bracelets. Sadly, I don't knit (but it's on the list of things I'd love to learn).

Thanks for all the good ideas. I think putting wooden beads on thin elastic with different colors to mark them would probably be the most practical for us. Wonder if I could find letter beads that would look nice to add first initials - inevitably dh will forget whose color is whose...

You probably have your napkin rings by now, but I've made these in all different colors, and they are really pretty!!

Thank you - those are really pretty. And no, I have not yet decided what to make... We've just moved so other things took priority, but it will be one of the first things we do when we're settled as we use them every day.

Not sure if it was mentioned but we saw on t.v. where you buy a package of curtian hooks, you know the circle ones?? They are super cheap and then you can use the little circle where you insert a hook to make a little tassle of some sort. It was really cute and CHEAP!
