Hi, it's your turn!
Well the first thing I noticed from your signature is that you're planning an HBAC - that's great! Can you share anything about your c-section? How are you prepping for this time around?
Do you currently work as a speech pathology asst? If so, where?
What is your current favorite food?
Do you have any guilty pleasures?
How does your DH feel about you HBACing?

Are you using a MW, or UCing?

So not in your DDC but I met ericswifey a few weeks ago. We met in San Diego and went to the Wild Animal park. She is so cool!!!!

So, do you mind if I lurk. I am not stalking you Amy I promise

Candipooh - why don't you ask ericswifey a few questions, too - since you've actually met her

Ericswifey - are you artistic?

Are you still wearing your rings (if you ever wore them) or are you getting bloated fingers?

Do you live in CA? Where else have you lived?
I get to ask too?

How long have you been with your dh? Where did you meet?

When is the first time you heard about homebirth? When is the first time you thought about it for yourself? Did you blow up the kiddy pool yet to see if it doesn't have any holes?

Hmm, I'll try and keep this short. My csection was pretty much your standard cascade of interventions turned csection kind of deal. My water had broken, so I was on the clock. I was given pitocin, which I initially was not aware of since it was not in my birth plan, then after 14 hours I caved in and got in an epidural, then coerced into a csection 22 hours into labor. The worst part of my csection was not the physical pain and recovery, but the separation from my son and the emotional trauma that ensued. If I had known then what I know now, I'm confident it would not have happened. I'm prepping for this birth this time around by being confident about my body, trusting my instincts and surrounding myself with positive, encouraging people. Whatever path I end up on, I will be an active participant this time.

Do you currently work as a speech pathology asst? If so, where?
Yes, I work for San Diego City Schools. I work with special education kids and regular education kids, Pre-K through 5th, although the little ones are my favorite: Although I am on maternity leave right now.

What is your current favorite food?
hmm. does chocolate count? I also crave portobello mushroom "burgers". Yum.
Do you have any guilty pleasures?
Staying up late browsing MDC might qualify...

He is A-Ok and on board with me, although he certainly wasn't at first. Our midwife and my constant sharing of birth statistics has put him at ease.

Are you using a MW, or UCing?
Midwife. I think after such a rough first birth I need the support , sense of security, and encouragement my mw and assistant can give this time. Although I lurk on the UC board as well. One day...

Yep, this time I am, but with my first I had to take it off the last month or two.

Do you live in CA? Where else have you lived?
I live in San Diego. I was born and raised here, although I did live in Sao Paulo, Brazil for a year .

Hi Candipooh! If you are up to another adventure, pm me, perhaps we can meet somewhere halfway between my place and your place!

How long have you been with your dh? Where did you meet?
We met at work, about 13 years ago, and have been together for about 9 years, married for almost 7. I can't believe how time flies! We were both Teacher's Assistants at the same elementary school.

LOL. The kiddy pool is blown up and sitting upstairs waiting patiently... A nurse whose kids I babysat for in highschool had a homebirth with her second but unfortunately it never occurred to me that I could do the same until I started researching VBACs.

Wow - a native Californian who has heard about poutine! I'm surprised! It's addictive, isn't it?! Who was this friend who enlightened you?

We're going to be in San Diego at the end of July for my niece's baptism - any touristy advice for us?

Are you ever worried that you'll have a great big earthquake and CA will fall into the ocean?

Do you surf? Scuba dive? Sail? So Cal is very into that sort of thing, isn't it?

Do you find the highway signs with the running family amusing? Sad? Annoying?

We had a college student from Quebec come to San Diego to work for the summer, on an exchange program! She's great, we stay in touch. We've had students from Canada, Scotland, Mexico, and Japan. Our student from Japan stayed with us for 4 years!

Oh yeah, lots to do! The Zoo and Wild Animal Park here are both great. There's Sea World as well but it's way too expensive IMO. There's the Steven Birch Aquarium. There's Balboa Park with great art, history and science museums. (The Rueben H. Fleet Space Center is a great place to go with kids- they have interactive displays and an interactive play area.) There's historical Old Town, tons of shopping centers, casinos nearby if you are in to that kind of thing. Mexico is right there if you are up to a day trip. There are a couple of crunchy stores to get organic clothes and products at too. Ecobaby is in San Diego. Pretty much there is something for everyone. It's easy to get around on the trolley too although the bus system sucks. Perhaps I could show you around one of those places when you come out- PM me

No not really I have felt about 10 minor earthquakes throughout my life though. It scares me every time.

Umm. I feel so unsporty . No., I don't but those are popular sports here. In high school I ran track and cross country, that was my thing. I don't go to the beach as often as I should, with it so close. Maybe a few times a year.

Do you find the highway signs with the running family amusing? Sad? Annoying?
They definitely don't make me laugh. More sad than anything I guess. Whoever designed them wasn't trying to be funny, they were earnestly trying to warn drivers to watch out for people running across the freeways, because so many people were dying. It's not as much of an issue now as the border is so lax people just drive in or jump the fence between San Diego and Tijuana. What I find offensive is the tshirts with the same sign, which are definitely worn to be funny. Not so funny.

Yeah, after I figured out what the signs meant, I found them sad, too

Are the border guards really that lax about illegals coming in?

Would you really bring your children to Tijuana? I think I would worry about illness, or something.

Is your home painted a vibrant color?

There's a little restaurant that serves only delicous desserts and amazing coffee whose name I've forgotten; do you know it??

Have you ever rollerbladed/skated along the beach wearing a bikini? (Sorry--had to ask)

People sneak across all the time, so yep. pretty lax. People smuggle drugs in all the time too through the SENTRI lanes, which are supposed to be for people who travel across the border frequently so they don't have to wait in long lines, supposedly people who have been carefully screened. But yeah, it's a problem.

Yes! I have. Of course like any city there are places you'd want to go, and places you wouldn't want to go. But the touristy spots are very safe and there's lots of shopping and great restaurants too. I'd be leery of the water quality and some of the food stands on the street though, because of hygiene practices. (outdoors, not in established restaurants)

Nah. It's pretty bland, like a pale yellow.

Hmm. Now I'm going to be thinking of what it might be all night Nope the name escapes me at the moment. Is it in the Hillcrest area?

With a bikini top, but with shorts on. But that was as a teenager.
I wouldn't dare do that now.

Hillcrest--sounds right to me. I was there last year and my husband made me eat four desserts! Twist my arm... hehe
