What would you make for a one year old?

We have a friend who is about to turn one.I would like to make him something for his birthday.I was thinking about bean bags.Do you think his parents might think that was wierd?

Any ideas?

Thanks for any help!

I think bean bags are a great idea! I made some for my ds2 right after he turned one, and he loved(s) them. His favorite thing currently is having me stack them on his head.

I think bean bags would be great. My daughter LOVED dropping things in a bucket at that age - maybe pair it with a bowl or pail?

Thanks for the replys!

I should have mentioned I made him a fabric book for Christmas. But I like the other ideas too. Also like the idea of pairing the bean bags with a pail. And thanks for letting me know that your kids like bean bags.I was starting to think it might be a strange present.

I knitted a snake for a friend's 1st birthday - he LOVED it. Carries him everywhere.
Felted wool balls are also a hit here

I think beanbags sound great. I'd add something to keep them in, maybe a drawstring bag or basket to throw them into. I know plastic is not popular but I usually seal my beanbag fillings in sandwich bags so that it doesn't get everywhere if the stiching breaks. I can see how parent's of very oral children might worry about beanbags but DD wasn;t big on putting things in her mouth.

I made some little bean bag "people" when DD was around that age. They are approximatly a 5 pointed start with a face.I also made a mat which has pockets in the same fabrics as each of the people for them to fit in. DD calls them her pocket people. The original plan was to hang the mat on her wall (I had those shoe tidies in mind when making it) but I've never got round to it.

Thanks for the reassurance.I was sort of thinking of making bean bag creatures of some kind.Maybe some plain and some funny lil' folks.Hmmm?I was also thinking about fabric foods because he really likes pots and pans.

Hmmmm??
