Can you go into labor without losing your mucous plug?

Short answer...yes.



Some mamas never notice the plug going since it can break up and be really tiny little bits over several days/weeks. And some mamas don't lose it until labor is well under way.

I never saw mine, and DD has been out of the womb for two years, so I'd have to say yes.

Definitely! My doula was talking about this in our birthing class. In one instance, a woman lost her whole plug & neither her or the MW had seen a whole one. An unusual case obviously.

First time around my water broke, and I never saw my plug.

Yep. With DS I was only dilated to 1 cm when I went into labor and never lost my plug before labor started. I'm guessing I lost it sometime during labor and didn't notice.

Yep I never saw mine with DD. I don't know why I keep looking so hard for signs of it. But I keep checking

Yup, you can. I have lost mine earlier in the day both times I went into labor and I keep checking this time, but I know some people never see anything.

I didn't notice losing my mucous plug either time!

I lost it and knew it with dd1, but with dd2 I never knew when I lost it. My water didn't break either time, till right before the baby crowned and the ob broke it.

Never saw hide nor hair of mine, so, yup, you sure can go into labor without losing your mucus plug.

I have this secret fear that mine came out when my water broke with a gush and that my mom had to clean it up when she washed my bedside rug while I was in the hospital with DS! (I think I had undies on, so, really, I don't think it did, but that's my terrible fear.)
