Puberty booklet sent home with my 5th grader

My son attended "the talk" at his school. They sent home a little booklet for the boys to show to a trusted male person. I was looking through it and noticed a small paragraph on circumcision. Here are the key points...

It's a minor surgical procedure.
Removes all or part of the foreskin.
Not considered medically necessary.
Usually performed for religious or cultural reasons.
Makes it easier to keep the penis clean.
Helps prevent the growth of bacteria.
Uncircumcised boys/men should wash under foreskin daily.

maybe you can write a letter to the makers of that booklet and give them the correct information...also letting them know that you dont appreciate them lying to your children... *sigh*

peace...

I have a friend who teaches Health class and she was telling her students to wash under the foreskin before I set her straight.
Are you going to call the school?

Honestly.....I hadn't thought much past the :

Tomorrow is their last day, so mentioning it to the principal is an idea. The booklet is "brought to you by: Old Spice."

Call Old Spice. I will if you don't want to..I love calling companies.
Just PM the nmae of the school and stuff so I have some facts.

Write a letter of feedback to the school too. Tell them where the information in the booklet is wrong. Offer to come talk in next year's class. Try to talk with the Health teacher.

Whenever we find misinformation, it has to be addressed to change things and bring awareness to new arenas.

Write a letter to old spice and talk to the principle. Tell him/her that you know that they want to give out the proper information since that is what school is about and give then some print outs from nocirc on the proper care of the intact penis.

Hey, at least they got 3(ish) out of 7... that's better than most.

*Sigh.*

A) Tell the teachers that more and more boys in USA are intact and school should start to give CORRECT information about care of intact penis.

B) Find out the contact information to the maker of the brochyre and send them letter. Then share the contact information here so we can ALL send some mail!!! Only way to change things!

See...that's the interesting thing. There is no health teacher. My son's homeroom teacher (they switch between homeroom and two other teachers) and the first grade teacher (he is the only male in the school other than custodians) were the ones who had "the talk" with the boys. The girls had the other two 5th grade teachers do their talk.

OK I find it really disturbing the booklet was distributed by Old Spice. If I am thinking of the same brand, my husband bought their shower gel once. Oh the stinky smell of it. Now I don't have a foreskin but I can only imagine how irritating it would be if I washed my female bits daily with the stuff. Dear God no wonder so many boys have to be circ'ed later in life!

Hehe, that's what I thought!

But seriously.... grrr. :

My first thought was a trusted *male* person?! What if you don't have one of those? Women can't talk about penises and male puberty?
The rest of it isn't as bad as it could be, but the school does need to be better informed.

Was it a general bodycare/puberty thing? I'm guessing they tell them to start wearing deodorant now, and in a few years they'll be shaving, thus the Old Spice tie-in. I hope they don't expect them to use their products on their genitals!

Yea....it was a general puberty/take care of your body thing. I do admit though I about passed out after opening the package. I forgot how strong of a smell Old Spice has.
