Best online store to buy unrefined shea butter?

All shea butters are not created equal. According to this article the only shea butter with healing properties is the totally unrefined kind that was cold-pressed (not chemical extracted) and must be less than 18 months old because it loses potency after sitting on a store shelf (it's not uncommon for the jar to be 2 or more years old before you buy it).

So... where can we buy the good stuff?? I found this store that looks pretty good.

What about Mountain Rose Herbs? I read somewhere that shea butter naturally has 25 SPF, but MRH says theirs only has 6 SPF. Does that mean it isn't the highest quality shea butter?

Where else would you recommend?

I purchased mine from MRH. I like it, though at room temperature it's pretty firm. It's simple to "whip" though, to make it easily spreadable.
From what I've heard, the natural SPF in shea butter is in the single digits--25 sounds a little high (unfortunately!).

I like agbangakarite.com, the shea I get there seems very active in its ability to calm itching and swelling from excema, and it doesn't stink like a campfire like unrefined shea I've gotten from other places.

It is firm at room temp but a hand mixer (the type with "beaters") can easily whip through it.

I agree that the spf is more likely the lower range, if it was truly a 25 it would be in a whole bunch of companies' "natural" sunscreens for megabucks, lol.

I have been reading up, and a ton of websites say that unrefined shea butter has SPF 6.

Mountain Rose Herbs says their shea butter is made this way:
To produce Shea Butter, the nuts are first picked from the Shea Tree and cracked, grilled, and pounded by hand. They are then boiled in water until the oil rises to the surface of the kettle. This oil is then scooped into gourds, where it is allowed to cool. Once that the oil has cooled, it thickens into a butter-like consistency.

The owner of Agbanga Karite says this about her shea butter:
Our shea butter is extracted using traditional methods of whipping the
powdered shea nut with water until the fats separate. It is not
expeller pressed. The packages are not marked with the production
date, but we can provide a batch number and expiration date if you wish.
Most unrefined shea butter has a SPF of about 15. As far as I know,
though, this has not been tested by the FDA or any other agency. We do
not have our shea butter tested for SPF.

The lady at Agbanga Karite (a store i linked to in my first post) said her shea butter is never more than 4 months old from the time it was made to the time her customers receive it. That's fresh!
