I haven't been very crafty lately, but I did finish a scarf last winter and I'm most of the way done with a shawl for next winter. I'm glad I it's not a sweater.

I was craftier when my first batch of kids were younger than I was when they were teens.

That feels so odd to say, "my first batch of kids", but somehow saying it makes it feel more real.

Here I am! I knit and occassionally sew. I'm presently working on a scrap-yarn knitted hat for my niece. I've never done a baby sweater, so that's waiting in the wings, and I also really want to make a baby crazy quilt this summer.

Big knitter here! I threw myself into it after the accident. I have gotten a LOT better in the last 8 months.

Nina, can you recommend any easy patterns for "baby legs" (EC-friendly leg warmers)? I'd also like to make some woolen soakers, but I'm not sure if my skills are up to it or not. I used to knit a lot in my early teens, then a little when big dd was in HER early teens, and I just got back to it (with some VERY simple projects) last winter. I've been very bad about half-finished projects lying around.

A close friend who has a one-month-old recommended a pouch sling for the newborn period, so I think I'm going to pick up some fabric and throw one together fairly soon. The pattern I have (in the bookmarks on my PC at home; I'll post a link later if anyone is interested) recommends Polar Fleece, which will be absolutely LOVELY for a February baby, and depending on how the first pouch goes, I may sew up several of them in different colours.

I used padded ring slings with big dd and ds and absolutely loved what was avilable th4en, the Nojo and the OTSB; I made one ring sling for DS that was also padded and similar to the slings of the day. I absolutely LOVE the look of the unpadded ring slings with the long, flowing tails like Gwen Stefani used with Kingston a few months back, so I want to make at least one of those. I also want to try a wrap again, even though I never learned how to tie one with my first batch of kids.

I'd LOVE to make my own diapers, but I work, volunteer, go to school, and tend to tire easily in my first and third trimester, so maybe I'd be better off buying prefolds and flats.

I'm interested in the pattern for the pouch sling. I'm definitely going for a wrap this time (so far, I've been wedded to my wilkinet, but I need a change) but the pouch slings look handy.

I don't knit but I dye and do freezer paper stencilling stuff, and deisgn stuff for transfers etc Have been neglecting it for awhile while I was exercising a lot but I hope to get back into it a bit while I'm pregnant. Tho probably not the dyeing, i'm really bad at wearing gloves!!

As far as patterns for baby leg types I have no idea.. I can so some looking to see if anyone has actually written a pattern, but I ASSume they would just be knit tubes with ribbing on both ends.

For soakers there are a MILLION patterns now it seems.
I am most familiar with the Wooly Wonder patterns. And the Little Turtle Knits patterns.
If you have some knitting know how they talk you through step by step enough to do them.
I learned how to knit with the LTK patterns. But knit the Wooly Wonders most often now.

There are also lots of help resources for both of them. So getting stuck is no big deal.


I don't/can't sew and so I will be looking to buy a new sling.
I am so sad because I had the same maya wrap sling through three babies, but it was in my van....
I loved that thing. It was broken in and soft and fit me just right. I also had an ellaroo wrap that I used for longer outings.. it was in the van too.
OH! and a new native pouch too!

I do have a solerveil ring sling upstairs.. but I am not likely to need that in Febuary.

I really want a mei tai this time too!

I'm a crafty girl. I make toys and dolls with felt. It relaxes me. I made a purse zombie recently. And some colorful animals for my friend's car. I also embroider. I did a whole bunch of onsies for my sister's baby. And now I get to make some for my own baby! I also start scarves.... and never finish them.

My mom calls me crafty.. I've dabbled in ddrawing art in HS.. then moved to clay and then cross stitch.. I made Madison and Aidan each a cross stitch with name and dob and framed them. I got interested in knitting back in Nov dec and gave up.. tried watching the videos on knittinghelp and always had a toddler who wanted to sit and watch with me.. so then a class came up to knit longies and I jumped in without knowing anything.. I watched the videos for a week just to learn how to cast on.. it was a fun class. that is how I met Nina! Now I know how to do basic stitches here and there and willing to try something new.. Right now I have 3 blankets I am working on and some dishcloths. I started out on the KK looms and once I got the hang of that and the terms then going back to knitting on needles was much easier.

I also love to bake and LOVE decorating cakes and stuff.. I've made Madison's bday cakes every year except her 4th bday. She wanted a princess cake and I just ran out of time to make the one she wanted so we store bought it.. never again.. they totally messed it up! But anyway yep I am pretty crafty. Got a serger for Mother's day and still trying to figure it out. I have a bunch of prefolds I want to convert to prefitteds and serge the edges but elastic kicks my butt with sewing.

I know what you mean about elastic. I'm making a babydoll style top for Skye from material I overdyed myself, and the shirring is driving me insane :

I've winged a babylegs pattern a few times. I'll type it up later (like, after breakfast.)

I made a mei tai from one of patterns on the sleepingbaby.net site. It is by far my favorite carrier for going on walks--it's very comfortable and distributes the weight very well. I'd do a few things differently if I did it again--a smaller pocket that's higher on the back, gathered top ties that would be smaller where they met the body but could be spread out over my shoulders and across the back--but it took me, a slow sewer, 9 hours to make, so I'm probably just going to live with this one!

I'm counting down the days until the end of July/begining of August when I can really start sewing and knitting for the bean. In particular is a skein of sock-weight yarn that I kettledyed in some wonderful earth tones that is so begging to become a baby surprise jacket.
