Cleaning Baby's Things

I posted about this in the past but wanted to make sure I amdoing the right thing....

Is the best way to clean baby's toys (soft and hard) and other baby items a 50:50 solution of White Vinegar and Distilled Water, with a few drops of Sweet Orange for scent? We do a daily wipe down of baby's playmat, soft toys, hard toys, and her car seat, and this is the mixture we have been using for cleaning and disinfecting.

Should we use Lavender instead of Sweet Orange, or are both okay?

We dont rinse the solution off (since there is water in the solution already) - is this okay?

Thanks everyone.

I think what you are doing is just fine. I use vinegar, water and tea tree oil to clean my DC's things. TTO is a natural antiseptic and gets rid of any "yucky" stuff that may be on you babes toys.

Thanks - I thought TTO was not supposed to be used around infants? If it is okay I can add some of that.

Is it okay to use the Sweet Orange oil for scent? Or should I switch to Lavender?

IIRC Lavender was named a culprit in some male babies growing breasts.

I think TTO was mentioned as something not to use either. It was mentioned on this board... I think I'll go look for a link for ya.

Thanks for looking the information up - and I assume since the vinegar is diluted, there is no need to rinse the baby items after wiping with the vinegar solution?

Did anyone ever find why TTO is not to be used around infants? I've always been told to use it in my wet bag for my diapers, and also to add it to the wash for my dipes..........my babes have been exposed to it quite a bit and I'm curious to know what's unsafe about it.
