dingoes running in the sun - Page 39

Eks, those were so cool! When we all get together for a group knit out, can we have you make us those cupcakes? After all, you're the one with the cake decorating skills (pronounced skeels)! :

I ran tonight! And DD actually decided to come with me! It was a lot of fun because we spent the whole time talking to each other. I haven't pushed the jogger in a long time, though, and discovered that 4 miles with the jogger is much harder on the legs than 4 miles without. But it was a great run and I'm glad we did it. I love my girl. I still need to lift weights tonight for legs, and it is late.. yes, I left it for last thing, and all I want to do is sit here and knit.

Manifesting Abundance - I'm afraid that all my new age talk might be annoying some of the more scientifically minded here (although some of this stuff is scientifically proven - I digress), so I posted an entry on my blog about another abundance exercise you can try in addition to your affirmations. You can see it here if you are interested.

Love y'all. Bunches.

Yow, I'm too far behind to catch up, but big to everyone dealing with health issues.

I'm STOKED right now because a collaborator and I decided to get moving on a paper combining both our studies a couple of days ago (psych journals want multiple studies/paper). She asked me to run a couple more analyses - well, I ran them this evening plus a couple more and realized the data I have is WAY stronger than I thought - it's nearly a perfect replication of her complicated data, which = very strong paper! Yippee! Okay, I'm a total geek to get so excited about this, but I'm really on Cloud 9. Also had a good writing day with another collaborator today, which is unusual for me (writing is my academic achilles heel). Somehow writing seems so appealing when compared to doing my end-of-quarter grading . Ironically, the writing is also going better because we decided to stop staring and getting lost in the old crappy intro to our paper we and an ex-advisor wrote years ago. Instead we're starting the intro from scratch and making a lot more rapid progress. Also, we're outlining big time, which works great for structure-loving me. Okay, will stop being so geeky right now, though I'm pretty hopeless in that dept

Learned the hard way this morning (ok, yesterday morning at this point) in masters that I must eat right after working out. I sprinted on my bike to an appt across town yesterday and didn't eat for 2 hours afterward, and wow, I was so dead in masters this morning.

Jgmommo - Ethan got the things from your Galen and he was really excited! I'll work with him to send something else soon

has HBM posted lately and I missed it? I've been trying to check to see if she got dd's "letter." Hope all is well.

I didn't get a run in yesterday but I'm going to try and give myself a get out of running free card for yesterday - I had a crown started and a filling done on the top tooth. The dentists words? "you have the smallest mouth I've worked on in a long time..." errr, thanks? My mouth is still sore from all the stretching.

sorry to post and run yesterday, work was calling. in fact, i need to get dressed and get out the door. abs and pushups are done for today. and one plank. couldn't find any ipods laying around to time it, so i don't think it was as long as it could have been.

squeezed in a great 45 minute trail run yesterday before leaving work. went a new route and it worked well, cleared my mind and made me feel great.

then last night was reason #1071 why living here is awesome. Music in the Park. Everyone goes down to the green in the center of town and fun bands play and the kiddos all run around and you don't have to watch them like a hawk and Ben & Jerry's gives away ice cream. This year ds is getting better at listening and more interested in running around where i can see him (as opposed to sprinting across streets). And a friend brought out some beers and some snacks and there was much catching up. so, that was great but it meant i wasn't home getting things done. thank goodness the weekend is almost here.

BBM - i'm sorry to hear about your grandfather, i hope his journey is peaceful. i think it's awesome that you'll provide a different model for your children than your parents have.

Not me! I'm actually considering just going ahead and buying the book. Louise Hay, right?

Mandy - that sounds so awesome! And thank you for those words of setting a better example. Dh and I were talking last night and I expressed my fear that I wasn't doing things differently. He went on to talk about our day yesterday with dd (pool, dinner at home, then he went to school and dd and I went downtown and got some icecream, then walked over to the park, then walked the "secret" passage...and so on...an AWESOME afternoon and evening), and said he never remembered days like that with his parents. I remember my parents taking me places b/c we were living in SA...and I remember playing cards with my dad a lot....so I think they did some of that. But anyway, just thoughts.

I had the *Best* run this morning! It was 30 minutes and during that time, ds crashed out, but dd and I saw a baby deer - like maybe newborn - still really wobbly, a cat, a rabbit, and a woodpecker. cool stuff. And the morning was cool and fresh and I felt GOOD. Ahhhh what running is supposed to feel like.

It's odd, but I feel like the weight is just going to melt off now. I feel so much lighter already, I think the AF thing marks the end of pregnancy/baby body and the beginning of having my own body back to some extent...minus chunka chunka nursalot man.

oh and Monica - thanks for the new agey stuff. love the timely link - for some reason doing that just made my day start off better.

Eksmom - those cupcakes are amazing!

Um, there are no pictures of the cupcakes we've been doing around here for a good reason! Soooo ugly! Tasty enough, but not pretty. Those were awesome!

BBM - I'm sorry about your grandpa.

Pumpkinseed - ITA it's all in the apology. Losing our temper isn't a crime against humanity but acting as if that is acceptable from us but not from them is a different story, it sounds like you are doing a fine job.

Monica - I meant to post earlier that I think those affirmations may help and I'll try them out regardless. Certainly with Wendy I think I was in some seriously deep and dirty water emotionally, I just didn't realize how dangerous a mental state could be.

Megs - I have to tell dh about your dollar-cost averaging principle of motherhood. He will love it.

I got my shirt yesterday!!! It almost covers my belly too I'll try to get a picture in it today. I saw aguacates cute pic, have I missed others?

I got my blood test result back yesterday (still itchy, not insanely, just enough to know what it is), the test results showed nothing weird. Everything was smack in the middle of the normal range. I got them back late yesterday and didn't have a chance to call my ob but I'll call tomorrow. Please send prayers that she will not blow this off because of the test. This is such a common story among women with cholestasis, I almost feel like I've wandered into someone else's story. But, I maybe getting ahead of myself, I should have faith that she's as conscientious as I believe her to be.

But anyway, here's a funny for your mornings:

Yesterday dh, dd and I were all in the bathroom getting ready to be up for the day. Dh stood up from the toilet and walked out (I know, , no hand-washing!).
DD said sharply, "You didn't wipe!"
He said, "I didn't poop"
She said, "Well if you didn't poop and you didn't pee what were you doing sitting on the damn potty?"
:

Okay, dd is taking a "personal day" from school today so I'd better get on with things!

Hi ladies! I'm back from NC, and it was a great trip. It was far too short, but my family from there will be visiting MI next month.

Update on the house ~ They countered us back with their original counter. James and I have until 6pm tonight to decide. We have no idea what to do. Their offer is $1K less than appraisal and they won't bring the house up to code. It makes us nervous when they don't want to do that part of it. Is there something seriously wrong with it that's too expensive? Or they just don't want the hassle? I wish I knew.

I haven't run. But.. I have been riding bike with my nephew, weeding the garden, and going for walks. Yesterday, I weeded 2 rows of our garden. Then my mom and I cut rhubarb and picked onions. I rinsed all the rhubarb and cut it to freeze. Anyone have any good recipes to share?

Monikita ~ I love your blog entry. Now if I could just find my new box of checks...

Jen - make your offer contingent on passing a housing inspection with your inspector. a good housing inspection will take many hours and cover everything with the house - if something is an expensive red flag you can back out of the deal. We did that with a house that turned out to have a cesspit instead of a more modern sewage system. It would have been $5k-15k to fix it and we decided it was just too much of a question mark and backed out.

They have had the city inspector visit already. We have a list of things that need to be looked at or changed. Most are minor, but our biggest concern is the furnace. The inspection sheet says "Condition of heating unit indicates need for service. Heating unit to be inspected and serviced by licensed heating contractor as necessary to ensure safe operation." We know it's an old furnace, but we don't know what condition it's in.

Is your idea to have someone other than the city inspector inside to give us more details?

This seems to be SOP around here, which we did as well. My dad came along for the inspection, as he knows about these things and we don't so much, and he said that everything was "doable." Well, for him anyway. Fortunately for us, for a whole house this one was priced amazingly low (it really was/is a fixer-upper), for this market, and is now worth at least 3x as much in 6 years. Ah, the joys of NYC real estate. Course, everything else is worth that much more too, so we stay put.

My legs are really feeling quite tired, so I am thinking of not pushing to run today. Maybe today I can actually do the Mummy Tummy workout. I need some serious work there. Monica, I would be very happy with a 2-pack. How long/often where you planking to achieve your results?

ETA: Jen, we did hire someone privately. Again, just how it is done here. Was not cheap, but definitely worth the piece of mind.

We had an inspector from a home inspection company come and inspect both the house we are selling and the one we are buying. The guy was here for at least 3 hours and looked at everything. The city inspection only took about an hour and didn't find nearly all the things the private guy did. I really recommend it.

GAH! I'm so NERVOUS about tomorrow's tri. I've been reading every checklist and agonizing about the stuff I don't have (goggle defogger? sunglasses? a hat for the run?) I swam in the base pool yesterday so I think that will be fine. I know I can bike 20 miles. But the 6.5 mile run has me totally stressed out. Sure, I can run it by itself, but AFTER doing the swim and bike ?! I'm so stressed! Why, oh why, did I pick this weird distance for my first tri, ever?
Jenlove - Yeah, I'd go with a private inspector, they are more expensive but they tend to be a lot more persnickety and I think it is a red flag that they won't bring the place up to code for you. Remember, the housing market is on a downward slide so you should have more room to negotiate.

You're going to do so amazingly well, it's not even funny! You don't need any of that extra crap. Goggle defogger = spit. You will finish the run because you've been training, so that will kick in, plus the endorphins/peer pressure from all the other people around you finishing the run!

GO GO GO, JAYGEE! Rock that tri! Can't wait to read the report.

Caveat on the extra crap: I think I would want sunglasses for the bike leg at least -- eyes get dry, yada yada.

yeah that. hire an inspector who will work for you. the cost will be about $250-350 and will take 3-4 hours. he/she may indicate that a special furnace person needs to look at the furnace, or a foundation expert may be needed or something like that. they're looking out for your best interests because you are paying them for the specific service - unlike the city inspector or your real estate agent.

eta: you have to put it in the counter offer that it's contingent on satisfactorly passing the housing inspection - if that clause is not in there already. if your real estate agent did not impress upon you guys this importance, that's a shame. it's really crucial to know what you're getting into. they should have standard wording and it should be worded to favor your rights, not the quick sale of the house.

Plady - I forgot to post about it before, but I've been thinking and praying about you. If you had just a standard liver panel it may well remain normal. If you are itching get your bile acids checked. Also, even if you have the cholestasis, like you said yourself, you know what to do - close monitoring, and get the baby here a little early. I'll keep sending those thoughts and prayers.

eksmom - wow! those are amazing cupcakes! Will you be bringing some to TN with you?

I had a nice run last night. Dh has starting running again (lured by my Forerunner - he loves gadgets) and has been working his way up to running 3 miles straight. Last night he felt ready to give it a go, so we ran together after our littlest was in bed. It was really nice out - cool and breezy, lots of stars, and of course great company! We ran 3.05 in 29:51, and dh ran the whole way! I'm hoping that we can at least do some easy (for me) runs together from now on. I don't think he's interested in training to any distance, just getting in shape and regaining a little speed, so I don't think he'll be a long run partner for me!

Disappointing news here, the university has told DH's department they cannot give him the fellowship due to how long he has been in his program. I was so upset I couldn't sleep last night. I'm off to sulk in a corner...

only briefly because I'm a writing machine this morning, err afternoon. I spent much of my morning shopping at various garage sales. finding some seriously good finds. then I came and wrote 2 pages. yay me!

grnmtn - I music in those sorts of things. Unfortunately my kidlets go to sleep too freaking early to attend. remind me they'll be older soon and more able to handle staying out?

jenlove: hire a private guy and make it contingent upon successful completion of said inspection.

knitting cupcakes, a must! for the dingo knitting session. cupcakes go fabulously with coffee, donch'a know?

I the affirmations. I'm the classic science person (I dissolve rocks for a living right now). But....the mind works in mysterious ways, KWIM?

Balancin1 sorry to hear about the fellowship. must get back to work or I've got some petitioning to do myself for an extension. eek.
