I'm not technically doing anything to bring on labor, but I am doing a lot to prepare my body so that the birth goes as well as it can.

-Massages. Once a week. Heaven.

-Lots of relaxation. Baths, listening to music. Had a half glass of wine last night. Doing things that make me feel good.

-Sitting tailor-style or on the birth ball when I can.

-RRL tea... been doing this religiously since 28 weeks. I've done an infusion with nettle, alfalfa and spearmint. This past week I went to just the nettle and RRL, and a much much higher infusion.

-Sex. Done it two days in a row now. LOL!

-EPO. Started this yesterday! I'm thinking of doing a few capsules throughout the day when I remember, and inserting 1-2 at night before bed on the nights we don't have sex.

-Pineapple helps?? I've been eating fresh pineapple like crazy lately just because I'm craving it. Good to know.

-LOTS of activity, but this isn't new either. Housework, walks, getting out for a few hours a day and doing something with DS. Not sitting idle too long at a time.

I don't want to do anything to bring on labour - I am just not ready. I will be ready by Thursday or Friday (just finished work yesterday) - hair appointment, dentist and other shopping trips planned for the first half of the week.

Not sure what I will try - likely nothing because heck I wouldn't mind one more weekend to - June 11 seems good (I am only due June16th by my count - June 13th by LMP).

Am I unusual????

I'm due Monday and really not doing anything yet. I'm going to have some RRL tea tonight and will ice some to drink throughout the day tomorrow. And I should really take my EPO. If sex isn't on the menu for tonight, I'll insert some as well, but sex would be more fun.

I can't stand the nipple stimulation option, but I will definitely be getting some fresh pineapple at the grocery store tomorrow along with all the other groceries. And I'm trying to do a good bit of walking each day. The dog is loving that!

If those don't do the trick by 41 weeks, I'll be talking to the MW about stronger natural induction options. But I have a feeling that this kid may show up just shy of 41 weeks regardless of what I do. I don't think I'll go before my due date, but I think I'll go soon after. We shall see if that's true intuition or just wishful thinking.

RRL, dandelion and nettles ice tea
homepathic stuff (blue/back cohosh)

nipple stim
pelvic tilts (as many as I can without getting bored)

common theme......having a hard time keeping up with all this....so tryng to not be too hard on myself....and do it when I can....

RRL tea
EPO orally only so far, will start vaginal soon
sex with nipple stim...if that counts.

what is tailor sitting?
how do you take the blue/black cohosh, by mouth? mixed with something? thanks!

Sitting "tailor style" is also sometimes called "Indian style".

You sit on the floor, with your knees bent, your feet drawn in, and your ankles crossed over each other.

The most common way for Americans to sit on the floor, because it's how we were encouraged to do it in grade school... though, personally, it makes my feet go numb.

I love tailor sitting but getting up is too painful. :^(

I didn't know that was a good way to sit - I do that most of the time!

i have been doing rr leaf and epo since 37 wks (i am now just over 40). i feel prepared but am trying to respect that he may not be... we do talk to him every night and let him know that he is welcome to come whenever he is ready. i am beginning to wonder if he is maybe a little stubborn and tired of the constant calls from parents/friends wondering why he is not here yet...

Ann- I'm with you- I don't feel quite ready for baby to come just yet. I'm due June 17, and would be happy with a June 11 birthday. I have things to do between then and now, and my mom who is supposed to be here to help won't arrive until the 8th.

However I guess I am doing some things, as I want a shorter labor this time when it happens (dd was 20 hours), so I'd like to start labor a few cm done.

1- having sex every few days- though I'm actually really horny, so its more about that than bringing the baby (I can hardly believe I actually want to)

2- drinking RRL tea

3- Eating Pineapple- but mainly because I like it

4- sitting on the birthing ball- though that's because its the most comfortable seat in the house these days

5- Swimming- not sure this counts, but I like it.

6- I might start EPO in a few days- just orally though until I reach my due date, then I might try inserting if baby hasn't arrived.

Same here in both things. I'm not ready at all, I still have cloth diapers to sew, we don't have enough and i'm freaking out about this. However my horny self is also boycotting my not bringing the baby yet state of mind I hope little being will stay inside longer. I'm 38.2 weeks today

I am secretly convinced that, once I hit 1000 posts here on MDC, that I will be ready to have my baby! How silly is that?

I am taking EPO orally now (since I hit 37 weeks), plus I've been taking alfalfa, nettles and RRL for a while (the first two more for breastmilk production since I was low supply last time.)

If I get to 39 weeks, I think I will take black & blue cohosh, as I did with DS. As I've said before, I would be delighted to get a labor similar to the one I had with him. I'm feeling superstitiously like I should do the same things I did then!

I am willing to try sex as of Friday night, but DH laughs when I suggest it. : He's probably right that it would be more of a comedy than a porno situation, but, still, he should pretend he'd like to, right?!? Grr!

Honestly, I hate the idea of nipple stimulation so much, I would probably take a hospital induction first. How embarrassing is that?

Other things I've been doing all along: sitting on birth ball, taking mild walks, and eating ridiculous amounts of pineapple. (I've craved fresh acidic fruits for MONTHS with this babe!)

It's funny that you said that because I was secretly convinced that would go into labor after my 7,000 th post. Maybe this baby is holding out for 8,000 posts?

I'm back on the vaginal EPO and I think I'll give sex a few more tries. Next weekend I'm really gonna step up the natural induction methods and maybe try the cohoshes. If my cervix decided it wants to open then I'll ask my MW to sweep my membranes this Fri.
I walked 3.2 miles yesterday, but nothing
post #17 of 20
I feel silly asking this, but what is EPO?
Epo is evening primrose oil.its thought that it helps your cervix thin and dilate.basically justs gets you ready for labor but does not actually induce labor.
I'll start epo tomorrow.

Acupuncture for labor induction study -- resule: 75% effective

So I asked my acupuncturist at my visit yesterday if she knew of any Western studies about how effective it was for inducing labor. She said she didn't, especially because it is so hard to do a "placebo" for poking someone with needles, which always complicates acupuncture studies here.

Anyway, later yesterday, she read this and forwarded it to me:

Saw this study in an e-newsletter this afternoon!

Acupoint Stimulation Can Help Induce Labor
Acupuncture is being increasingly used in Western medical practice. The authors review the various applications of acupuncture during labor in this paper. This ancient therapeutic technique can be employed with a significant percentage of positive results to induce labor in post-term pregnancies, to strengthen uterine contractility and to favor cervical maturation.
The electrostimulating acupoints LI 4 Hegu and SP 6 Sanyinjiao is the most frequently used treatment in labor induction and in increasing the frequency and duration of uterine contractions. Moreover, the authors’ experience indicates that the BL 67 Zhiyin can be helpful in accelerating the dilation of the cervix: the treatment is effective in about 75% of patients.
The studies on the use of acupuncture to achieve pain relief and analgesia during labor are more controversial, mainly due to the great heterogeneity of applied treatments and some methodological biases. Nevertheless, the general evidence seems to be positive also for this application.
