Legs Flaky & Dry After Shaving

I shave my legs every day because I am insane and cannot stand the feeling of those prickly little stubble hairs. But my shins (where the skin is the thinnest) are really, really getting flaky. Nothing I put on them makes them look good--I've tried cocoa butter, shea butter, expensive stuff, cheap stuff, etc.

Any suggestions for a moisturizer that will get them looking better?

You shave everyday?? Maybe you could try an oil like olive or coconut.

I would have thought that cocoa butter or shea butter would do the trick. Maybe you just need an epilator (to pull hairs out) instead of shaving. Sounds like your legs can't handle it.

I'm assuming you shave with regular razors...have you ever tried an electric razor? In my experience they're not quite as harsh on the skin, and since you can use them dry it's more versatile depending on what works for you. I used to get bad eczema on my legs during the winter, until I started to use one of those. HTH!

I tried shaving with my hair conditioner as I wasn't using it for my hair and I didn't want to just pitch it, such a waste. It worked great and didn't clog up the razor. I am terrible about remembering to shave, even in the summer, so when I do the razor really clogs with hair and I have to rinse every few inches. :

If you just let it go the hair isn't itchy and stubbly.

Make sure your razors are replaced often - the snagging can cause the flaky skin you're talking about. Olive oil and/or cocoa butter work great on the little flaky skin.

I agree with the prep method - a good shave gel of some sort, even conditioner, or a bath gel would give you a closer shave and avoid the chafing.

I'm glad to see you around.

Maybe we should start a tribe! Thanks for the tip--I'll try that. Maybe it is an exfoliating issue--I know shaving exfoliates, but the point Spazzy had about the razor needing frequent replacement is a good one. Go ahead: someone ask me how often I change razors!

OK, how often do you change your razor? I saw some lady on Oprah or Dr. Phil or something who had been using a disposable razor for like 2 years. She said she had to shave over each area 5 times to get rid of the hair but it never seemed to occur to her to get a new razor.

I use coconut oil on my legs after shaving. Of course, I only shave them like twice a week.

I tried an epilator when they first came out, maybe 1989? OUCH!

Two years?!? That just made my stomach lurch. Mine always seem to rust if I leave them sitting around for a month or so...wow. :

I generally go three to four months between changing razors. And that's shaving daily. Gee, I wonder why my legs are all rough?
