Weeeelll, since I don't have a babe to try them on yet I am just hoping that mine will work, but I figure you change a newborn often anyways. My fitteds are:
Outer: flannel
Hidden layer: old flannel sheet
Atatched soaker (to inner hidden layer): 3 layers of cotton terry (same thing as a bath towel)
Inner layer (touching babe): flannel or velour

Quick and easy, nothing fancy! I am going to make some doublers also in case I might need them. HTH!!!

Fern and Faerie has instructions on making fitteds from recycled materials: http://fernandfaerie.com/sewing_fitteds.html

They recommend using 4 layers cut from the fitted diaper pattern plus 8 layers of soaker pieces (when using things like flannel, old t-shirts and the like). If you are using terry for the soaker pieces, you could probably use 3 or 4 layers...

This is how I make them too but often use flannel for my inner soaker layers. I find a layer of inner flannel works great to stabalize the knit fabrics. I use outgrown t-shirts from my older kids with the design centered on the butt. They come out super cute. If you get too many layers then they take forever to dry. I like to use a double or cloth liner for extra absorbancy because it is easier to rinse the poopies that way and they dry quicker. I like to get a top layer of hemp or fleece to wick the moisture away into the inner layers of the double and the diaper.
