Late Teethers?

I was just wondering if anyone else had a late teether? My son is only 10 months old but has no sign of cutting teeth. But for months I keep thinking (& telling my husband) that he is teething and I'm starting to doubt his "teething like sypmtoms". I thought I felt some under his gums last week, but now they have seemed to disappear? I don't know what is going on. Do some babies feel the teething discomfort for months before they ever actually break through the gum?

I also had another thought & wondered if anyone else has experienced this. I have noticed that amoung my other mother friends that the kids who are being fed organic only food have no teeth yet (9mon - 12 mon old) and the ones who were fed conventional food got their teeth around 6 or 7 months. I just realized this the other day and wondered if it is just coincidence or if other moms are noticing it too.

Kids can get teeth anywhere from 4 months on. It doesn't have to do with organic food. It's more genetic.

If no teeth by 15 months you need to see a pediatric dentist to make sure that they are in there and are going to come in. Otherwise, wait until then.

I have two late teethers (DS1 first tooth at 13.5 months and DS2 at 11 months) and it's actually a GOOD thing. The teeth have more time to mineralize and are thus stronger the later they come in. (My ped. dentist told me this.) Both my kids seemed to be teething for many months before anything came through.

Also, my ped told me that there has never been a documemnted case of a child not getting teeth.

Hi,
dd is 11 1/2 mos. and is just starting to cut her first tooth. I have 3 others, and their ages were6 1/2 mos, 9 mos. and 10 mos. for their first tooth. So I'm not panicking. Neither should you.

ds got his first at 4 months, dd at 12 months, ds2 is 11 months and there isn't the slightest sign. We are going to the doc (homeopath) to talk about delayed dentition as it is a marker for their constitutional remedy. No need to panic, but it is an extra piece of information....

I have read (repeatedly) that the delay is tied to gut issues. I believe it 100%. Dd has celiac disease, and ds is very sensitive to several foods and already has seasonal allergies.

Very interesting about the gut issues. DD2 started teething at 3 mos and her first tooth appeared at 5 1/2 months. She has 2 now and is teething bigtime. She is EBF, never a drop of anything else, and I ate an organic diet including organic grass-fed meats and eggs. Dd1 was breastfed but had a bottle of formula daily from birth, I ate mostly vegetarian with her and she got her first tooth at 7 months. The baby next door is 6 months, 100% ff, asthmatic and has not even started teething yet. I personally disagree that teething late is better for the teeth. If there are gut issues involved then mineral absorption might be compromised. I was just thinking about this issue the other day and wondering if it was mainly genetics or something else.

I also avoided fluoride while pregnant with both, drinking mostly bottled water (which I know now is not so great either). I wonder if maternal fluoride might be a factor too.
