I think it is another one of those things that helps push you over the edge if you are close. One of my clients did accupuncture around 41 weeks preg and the accupuncturist assured her she would go into labor within 48 hours but she stayed pregnant for another week. I have heard that this accupuncturist has had a lot of success putting women into labor but it didn't work for her.

Acupuncture has some pretty amazing success rates for a lot of different things. Remember, it is a huge part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), which is a primary health care system for billions of people!
If I get to my due date, or if I have some medical issue that makes induction look likely, I really trust my acupuncturist and I will ask her to needle the "forbidden points" that can bring on labor.
Of course, I also agree that nothing will really work if a baby just isn't ready!
Finding a good practitioner is the key. I love my acupuncturist! (And I had a first experience of acupuncture a few years ago that was not great, but not really bad either.) I credit her with curing two sinus infections, helping me get pregnant, and making this pregnancy much more comfortable than I think it otherwise would have been.

Yeah, I think acupuncture works like all the induction methods...it won't if your body just isn't ready. Even pitocin fails to work sometimes. It worked beautifully for me last time around. I went after my waters had been broken for over 12 hours and went into labor on the table- the baby was close to being born in their bathroom, but we made it home!
