natural dye fabric paints

Thread Starter
I have baggies of the following in raw/dry/powder form:

osage orange
madder root
alkanet
cochineal
cutch extract

Can anyone tell me how to make fabric paints with them?

Thanks!

I just posted this elsewhere, but it'll help you too!

...ugg, I misread. Fabric paints you say. I'll be back...

ETA:
You could try mixing your colors with a texile meduim. You should be able to find it at a craft store on the acrylic paint asile. It turns ordinary paint into fabric paint. I don't see why it wouldn't make you dyes colorfast. It's not super expensive so it might be worth a try.

Well, you'd need to mordant your fabric first and then let it dry. I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to use a concentrated dye stock as a paint with a batik outliner to try to stop it from bleeding, but considering the cost of cochineal I'd use that last.

Hmm. Interesting question. Aurora silks do sell some fabric paints based on natural dyes, but I would have thought you'd need heat to bond them with the mordants.
