Any potters out there?

I'm not a pro or anything, but I love wheelthrowing! Last semester, we learned how to make cups, bowls, mugs, vases, etc. It was a blast! We even had a wood firing at the end of the semester, and other than it stalling for 3 whole days and causing the firing to be slightly less than mediocre...it was so much fun. Anyone else like to play with dirt?

I took pottery classes in high school and really loved it. I am now taking a 6 week class at a pottery shop, just to get back on the wheel! I would love to learn how to sculpt and get better at slab pottery.

I am a muddie too! LOL.

lol. I'm terrible off the wheel...I don't have the patience for coiling, handbuilding, and slab work. I wind up sticking my fingers all up in it.

I took a couple of years of pottery 1 and 2 in high school and some in Jr. High too.
I went back to school several years later for an art degree and took more in college.

It has been 12 years since I have touched clay and as a relief to grieving my husbands loss I went back in January to the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts for two 10 weeks classes.
Kip was our instructor and she was by far the best I have had in all my years.

I have a Rampmaster II autoprogramable Kiln in my garage just waiting to find a place to hook up to a 220 line.

Oh! Me! ME! lol! I've been throwing for about a year and a half now. We have this great instructor who showed us the basics and let us figure it out on our own. If I ever have questions, she's there to help, but we're basically on our own. I like it that way.

Wendy1221...very nice! I'm an amateur potter who would love to go pro, but am simply not at that stage right now. My husband bought me a used kiln for christmas and I have a wheel, so I'm on my way though! I just need the space and the time. Right now they're sitting in my basment and I haven't had my hands in clay for over 2 years. sigh.

Yes, I'm a potter too! Got a BFA in it. I guess I'm a professional potter on hiatus. I find it nearly impossible to work with the kids, especially the 2yo. I used to teach classes when I lived closer to town.

I hear you about being on hiatus. I was a high school pottery teacher before children. I really miss having my hands in the clay. I too have a kiln in the garage just waiting to be hooked up. I ready for the time to play in the mud again. Its hard with a 10 mo. old.

Potter here! I've been a studio potter for 10 years or so (with lean times during the baby years) and now I am 3/4 of the way through my MFA in ceramics.

My thesis show is in June, which means I have no time to make any pots for sale. Everything I make these days has to be for school. I'm throwing this weekend for a salt firing on Tuesday!

I mostly sculpt stuff, when I get a chance.

I didn't get to play with it in high school - we didn't have a kiln.

I didn't go to a four-year school so I didn't get to play in college.

I basically discovered it after trying Sculpey and needed something more, so dove into books, bought a kiln on e-bay, and here I am! If my kids weren't so young I'd be in it every day!

I miss playing in the mud so much it hurts My major is in photography, but my real passion is ceramic art. I took pottery classes while I was getting my BA at Hollins University. There, I had 2 of the best teachers anyone could ask for. We became quite good friends. I miss them and the studio terribly. They gave me a wheel when I left, but I don't really have a studio of my own, so I haven't used it yet. It's been about 9 months since I've touched clay. Hopefully one day I will get my studio.

I finished scheduling my spring courses and to my surprise I had only taken one semester in ceramics 26 years ago. I registered for the next class.
Soooo looking forward playing in the mud.
