Ob 180

So I've got the world's biggest mother-hen worry-wort of an OB. He's expressed for months that he's afraid to let me go to 40 weeks (because of some very real health risks to me, and planned to rub prostaglandins in my cervix at Week 37 to ripen it, and strip my membranes at Week 38... and if that didn't work, we'd see.

Well, last week was Week 37. An exam showed my little girl head-down, and my cervix 60% effaced, 1cm dilated. So he didn't bother with the prostaglandins.

We've been panicking the past week, really wanting her to get here before he resorted to stripping the membranes... doing everything we could to "encourage"... including acupuncture this morning (the first I could get in).

Well, he did NOT strip me today, and is now willing to let me wait it out if that's what I want... he's just going to monitor me more often.

Not sure what's caused this change of attitude, but it sure bodes well! :

I feel SO much less stressed.... (Hey, maybe I'll go into real labor tonight, now that the pressure's off!)

YAY for the 180! It always helps me when the people around me are less stressed, and I hope he keeps up this attitude! Wishing you happy birthing vibes - whenever your time comes!

Someone asked me -- in that super-serious state that folks only achieve when they've had one or two more drinks than is really good for them -- if I "trusted" my doctor.

My response was that I trust him to care for my medical conditions... I need his medically-inclined attitudes there. I just wish they didn't have to interfere with my birth, so.

And, apparently, he's figured that out, at least partially. Part of my brain is still adjusting to that, but it's a huge relief. Feeling less like I have to hide things from him.
