toys made in China

I hope I'm posting this in the right forum....

Most of my son's toys are plastic and almost all of them are made in China. I've been doing research lately (mostly through this site), and I know why plastic is bad, but what are the specific reasons toys made in China are bad? Is it poor treatment of and low pay for the workers? Political reasons? Sorry if this is a silly question, I'm learning so much from this site!

Well, one reason is that plastic toys from China have lead added to the plastic as a uv shield.

A big reason is the poor treatment and low wages, not to mention the lack of child labor laws. There is no way for you to guarantee that the plastic toys have not been made by a young child FORCED into work, getting paid very, VERY little. Also, your $$ is going out of country. It's much better to support local economy, even if "local" just means the USA. Questionable materials are also used.

While not ALL plastic toys are bad, they do tend to be of a lower quality, breaking far sooner than ones handcrafted of natural materials.
